Guest Posted December 2, 2008 Share Posted December 2, 2008 i am trying to fix some stuff on the site and add some things i go into admin controls then to tools and after that define language....and before i could edit...not i am getting this message...please help me Error: I can not write to this file. But it is not a good idea to use the filemanager to edit files, rather download the file to your PC, edit it there, and then copy it back up to your server. Rather download the file and edit it on your PC. To set permissions on a file, right click on the file from within your FTP tool, on the pop up menu select file attributes, then enter the numeric value of 777 in the input box. Say Ok and close. Say Ok and close. ahh ok...well one thing im not understanding..or maybe didnt explain clearly....this is not on an actual sep file that im trying to load to the site... it is in the actual site itsself....when i log into admin panel...then click tools...followed by clicking define language....it will not let me edit anything in there anymore...before i would click on it and be able to add to it or what not...now it gives me that error message... is that what you are referring to?..if so i am not understanding exactly what to do... sorry for inconvience.. When you are in Admin and click Tools followed by Define language, the files that show up there are files located on your hosting server. Everybody here will tell you that using the Filemanager to edit your files is not a good idea...it causes corruption of the files. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
