Guest
Greetings from the UK I mnaged to have os commerce uploaded to my server, our ISP obliged. But now as a novice to computing and of course e-commerce I am venturing into a world that my lack of experience/expertise is causing me monumental difficulties, here is what I would like to do: a) learn and then find out how i get to catalog/includes/english...etcetera etcetra B) once this is acheived I will need to include company logos, change the default headings, be ambitious enough to change the page layouts. c) finally I will want to change the colours of the pages and when all is complete, products uploaded I hope to... d) Open up for business!!!! Can anyone help me at least acheive a) ? Your help/assistance gratefully received in advance

Can anyone help me at least acheive a) ? Your help/assistance gratefully received in advance Hey Keith! I can definitely relate to where you're coming from. I'm probably the last one who should be replying to anyone's questions. Talk about monumental difficulties!?! I'm still having them! But your first question hit home with me. It took me probably at least 2 days to find where catalog was located. What confused me was that catalog/admin is found with your browser, so I assumed that's where all the others were. All other catalog folders are found on your server. Depending on who you have determines how you would access it and change it. You either make changes directly on your server, or (more likely) download the files to your computer using an FTP program (look at me, I almost sound like I know what I'm talking about). If nothing else, I hope this info at least points you in the right direction so you will at least know what questions to ask someone with more knowledge than I. Hope I helped at least a little. One of us may come across a stumbling block, and can warn the other, and visa-versa, and versa-visa, meaning we may also come across a fix that would help the other. Shall we attend pre-school together? I always liked having a study-partner.

There are many free ones that do an excellent job. Do not use the osc filemanager, word, wordpad, etc. Pretty sure there is a list in the tips and tricks forum. ♥geoffreywalton
Now you have fileszilla you should really start reading the front page of your shp and sort out all the problems shown there and follow the instructions on how to change the first page. You could also look for a thread by vger on installing a new site. Here is my stock advice for UK shops My advice is first read the documentation that comes with the download of the latest version of osc. Then read the knowledgebase. Dig out a thread from the signature block of lindsayanng on roadmap for newbies Also read the first 2 threads in the installation forum. Finally use the search term site:www.oscommerce.com/forums xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx in google whenever you get stuck. Laurie C.
Keith! I just found a GREAT post! Answered most of MY questions, and in simple terms. :P It's called "Basics in Design". I'll try a link: http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?sho...=139426&hl= I don't know... That kind of looks incomplete... Well, try it. Or, I replyed to it not long ago, it should be still on the first page or two if you click "View New Posts" (and if it's not that long ago that I posted this...). Anyway, haven't had a chance to check your site. I'll do that now. Keep in touch with any "helpful hints" you stumble upon. Laurie

Laurie C.
Now you have fileszilla you should really start reading the front page of your shp Geoffrey; Is "shp" a typo? If yes-what should it have been? If no- what is shp? Laurie
