Need site secure, PHP files won't work with shared cert.

OK, need some advice here. I am a newbie to osCommerce and my site is not yet up and running (mainly due to the SSL problem I ran into with my host) and my constant over editing of my site trying to program things right. I feel like a monkey working with spaghetti at times.

Here's the problem:

I have the ability to use a shared certificate with my host's server, but they require other scripts than PHP to be able to do this. They recommended html/Perl/cgi, etc. based scripts for my shopping cart and customer log in areas to be secure through the shared cert.

Before I go installing a bunch of cgi based shopping carts and account scripts for my site I want to get some advice here. I know a personal cert. would do the job, but I'm on a budget and am trying to find the cheapest and easiest way to do this.

I plan on using PayPal/Google/Amazon Checkout options in my shopping cart. Anyone with experience using these in a site that is not secure please let me know if it will work.

Also, any advice on what scripts other than PHP would work good with the osCommerce install so I can make my site secure with the shared certificate.

Thanks for any help/advice!!!!!!

Hey Reid,

Probably not what you want to hear, but I would consider looking elsewhere for a host.

I have no problem using my host provided shared SSL with osCommerce.

My host is Lunarpages. Renewal expires 4/2009. Maybe time to start shopping around. Who is your host provider? Might save me some time locating one. Thanks!

Been with them for over 3 years, very happy so far.

Lunarpages is a fiarly competent host. I think you may have misunderstood what they told you or may have gotten an entry level tech. You should ask them again and escalate the ticket it necesary. You don't need extra scripts to use a shared ssl and Lunarpages knows that.

Hmm, that is really strange. There isn't any difference between a shared cert and a private one so why they would allow one and not the other doesn't make sense. Oh well, if they won't play nice it may be time to leave as mentioned.
