CC
By George I think we are starting to see more effort going into OSC these days. I have to say I like it, nice clean cut, sharp appearance that gets the point straight across. Only one thing that put me off, the site looks clean and appearance is nice, until hit the images on your products. The are very poor quality, very pixelated and far from fitting into the rest of the site. So perhaps cleaning these up would finish off the sites professional look. Also the cert is popping up with a problem, sorry I didnt see the problem cos I clicked by habit and forgot to look, but I would imagine you know about that anyhow. Other than that I think it is very nice. CC.
burt
Nice, clean lines. I particularly like your "weekly specials" infobox idea...might have to do something like that on my next site... ;) Also like how you've re-arranged your products_info.php pages. Good work fella. Gone into my Osc favourites that has, for future reference. Theres only 3 in there so far!
burt
The only thing I would do is to add in some sort of Search Engine SID killer solution - theres loads of them about in the Forums if you do a search... hth
Guest
Brian, Looks great! Have a question or two...Are you going to change the theme with the seasons? Second, the image of the cattails is a GIF and is 19k, if you don't mind me asking, why not a JPG? The file could be much smaller as a JPG. (Under 7K)
rossdev
CC, I will agree with you on the product images. Our customer did not want to pay us for image processing, so they are stuck with images they find/take themselves. The second problem is with our host. They don't have the latest GD library for PHP and that is what caused the pixilated look. I didn't know about a cert issue. What is the problem? Burt, Wow ... added to you osC favorites  Thanks! I will also look into the sID killer. I didn't think we had that problem cause we store all the sID's in the db. The only time we saw it was when you went to a secure section of the site. BirdBrain, Yes the site is theme based. I programmed all the applicable images to point to a theme directory (images/theme/winter/). So all we need to do is update the calling in config.php to change the theme. The only thing I still need to do is to create my themes for the style sheets. gif or jpg ... good question. My graphic designer couldn't give me a straight answer and then told me he will look into it. Thanks everyone for your comments!! Anyone else have something to add? Brian. CC
The cert popup is just that the cert does not match the name of the site, so it is popping a security alert. Not major but for now I would imagine it would put off some users if a security alert pops up. Have you also looked at the Thema contribution for altering your themes? Much easier to control, as it can be done via Admin. Just a thought. CC.
Guest
Hi, It looks pretty good I must say! What I like most about it is that you have taken care of usability issues such as positioning of the search box, and provided meaningful information in the about us and ordering information style pages. I have been doing e-commerce sites for a long time on a professional basis so I know what I am saying, and what you have done is get right the things that make a site look professional and instill confidence in users, things that make people buy in other words. It's great to see you have placed importance on usability and not gimmicks, more people should be doing the same. The only thing I would like to point out to you and I understand it is probably not in your control but in the control of the people who own the store is the product descriptions. They really need to be much longer and go in to the products in more depth. On some sites we have done, simply changing the descriptions from maybe 5 bullet points to 300 carefully chosen words has made all the difference to how well the products sell. Once again congratulations on a splendid effort and I wish you all the best.
rossdev
CC, This is an interesting issue with the cert. You are the first person (to my knowledge) to have this issue. I do know that the cert address is correct. Would it be possible for you to give me the url in the cert and the url of the page where the error occurs? I looked at the themes contribution and I didn't like how it worked. I feel what we did worked best for our situation. Chingali, Thanks for the comments! Our #1 goal was to make the site simple to use. osC is a great starting point but with some careful considerations and some code rework we were able to address issues we felt needed fixing. Back to the products .. our customer wanted full control of the products. I'm fine with that. All I can do is code in certain elements to help keep a common look and feel. After everything is all said and done all I can do is give them advice. Once again thanks for all the comments, Brian
belladonna
Quite a nice looking site you have there :) ... straightforward, soft relaxing colors, ... well done! The only thing that bothers me is the footer. A bit too cluttered IMO. I would ease up on the links or reorganise them. Take care, Richard
rossdev
belladonna, Yes I will agree ... it was a little heavy in redundant information. I updated it to include only the major links. Thanks, Brian
tcpinhead
Looks nice. Everything is consistent except the footer. The text seems to have escaped your style sheet and comes up as serif font. Now that is picking nits. Good job. I hope mine turns out as nice.
fan4chevy
I like the site it is clean. However, I am really big on pages being in proportion. For example on the first page of the cart the box that has the fish hook, waders and tdr is our of alignment in that it is dropped way below the rest of the side boxes. My suggesstion is to reduce the gift certificates image in height so that the rest fits evenly. The other option is to put something on each side column that would bring them down to meet the bottom of the image mentioned that is too low. This is just my opinion but I think it makes for a clean site. Just an opinion!
horizon70s
Very nice. Unfortunetly in 4-5 minutes...I can't find anything wrong (that's a good thing....just nothing for me to criticise :P ) And VERY good product line....as an avid fisherman I must say good choice going with GLoomis! 8)
