Attribute Cloning Tools

I have been trying to decide whether or not i should install an attribute cloning tool. My main source of distress is that there are no active support threads and i can not seem to find ANY answers relating to whether or not they will play well with the contributions that I already have installed.

I have the attribute QTY contribution, the AJAX attribute Manager, Attributes Sets all installed.. now, i probably will not NEED the attributes sets if this cloning tool works, but i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions onw hich one to use, and if you have actually used it yourself.

DO NOT PM ME FOR HELP. My time is valuable, unless i ask you to PM me, please dont. You will get better help if you post publicly. I am not as good at this as you think anyways!

HOWEVER, you can visit my blog (go to my profile to see it) and post a question there, i will find time to get back and answer you

Would be a great addition to OSC, only done this using an SQL script through PHPmyadmin. Perhaps adding this as an option to product copy command. I'll add it to my to-do list #53....I think

Good Luck,

Frank

I started out using "attribute sets" and that initially worked well but in the end I had some many products with slightly different attribute combinations it became unworkable so now I use AJAX attribute manager - very slick!

Attribute Sets would be the best for someone whose products uses only a small collection of combinations of attributes.

With regards to the other contribs I couldn't comment as I've no experience.

I also have the ajax attributes manager.. my deal is, ALL of my products have the EXACT same attributes and teh EXACT same prices.. The product is $0.00 and the attributes are the products.. and they are ALL the same.. the other issue is, i can upload anywhere from 500 or more products a week.. So this is taking FOREVER doing it the "normal" way.. even WITH attributes sets and the attributes manager

Attributes sets still doesnt quickly add the entire lot of attributes, attributes sets only lets you group ONE attribute at a time

My preferred path of discovery is having an identical copy of my live site on a subdomain and just jumping in feet first on the dev site - if it works great, I copy it over to the live site - if not I just roll the dev site back.

I doubt that you'll get a response from someone that has - over the past year or two these forums have really gone downhill - you used to have some really skilled, experienced people on here - there's still a few of us around but mostly now-a-days there's mostly "help vampires" (i'm sure you've seen the link in some signatures) who take more than give. I'm sure you've found yourself that you give more than you receive (or perhaps I'm too cynical?)

no, i know what you are saying.. but there ARE people on here who know what they are doing, so every so often, i make a post asking for help and HOPE to get it..

yea, i get frustrated with the SAME question over and over.. but ya know.. i just asnwer them.. i figure if i can answer THOSE questions, it will leave more time for those smart guys to help answer my questions
