bellagirl
I am having some problems with my shopping cart and it looks like I will need to re-install os commerce. Does anyone know if/how I can save my product so that I dont have to relist every item back into the shopping cart? Please help!
spax
Just overwrite all the PHP files, apart from the 2 configure files, of the aborted store with those from a new one. You should be good to go but remember, any contributions you have added will be wiped out. EDIT: Best to keep the stylesheet also, if you have made any styling changes. jonsmithgraphics
hello, i have a similar situation, however i accidentally uploaded the original 2 configure.php files over the ones on the server. now i cant access my admin pannel. i have added the database details in the right areas of the configure.php files but this doesnt seem to work. is there a way i can run the install files again to set up the configure files correctly without losing all my products? i have made a back up of the database through phpmyadmin, will this save all the product images aswell as details and is this back up of use to help me here? i'm praying someone can give me some good news on this. jon
spax
Jon, A decent host will make regular backups or snapshots of your files. Usually daily, weekly and monthly. Ask your host if this is true for them and how you would access them so you can grab the copies of files you need. Failing that, you could install another instance of osC in a sub-directory or even a sub-domain and use it as a dev site. Once you have that, you will have 2 correct configure files, albeit with an extra directory name if you install into a sub-directory. i.e. If you install into www.your_domain.com/dev and your live site is in www.your_domain.com, you would remove any reference to dev/ from copies of the 2 new configure files, change the name of the database to the live one, put them into their respective directories on the live site and all should be good. Remember you would need to create a new database for the dev site otherwise you would have to overwrite the live db, which would defeat the purpose. And yes, so long as you have a copy of the database, you have all your product/customer/order info. Always make backups before you do any kind of db/file editing and you will always be safe. spax
You are welcome! Once you have it sorted, it is a good idea to keep a copy of all your files on your PC. Actually, that is where I do all my dev work so I always have backups when needed.
jonsmithgraphics
hi Peter, i have gone through the back up process and recovered the files. i am not getting another problem: it lets me log into the admin section fine, when i click on the online catalog link (or just navigate to the home url without being logged in) it just takes me back to the admin login page. does anything spring to mind as to why this is happening? cheers jon

spax
Nice one Jon! Now make sure you keep all aspects of your site regularly backed up. Especially before you make any changes.
