knifeman
Hi all, Please forgive me that this is not really an oscommerce question, but I have run out of places to find a solution. Quite some time ago when this forum was updated, it began loading extremely slowly. I thought it was the new forum. Now fast forward to a couple weeks ago. Lightning took out my DSL modem. DSL company replaced it and ever since, when I go to the UPS website, it now loads so slowly that dial up looks fast. And that is no exaggeration. I visited this forum from different computer and it loaded fast. Nothing like on my home computer. Same with UPS, their site loaded fast on the other computer, but not mine. I deleted cookies and temp files. Ran spyware and virus scans. DSL company had me ping UPS from command prompt and it just times out. Most other sites load in the speeds I am accustomed to, but UPS does not. I added UPS to my trusted sites and that did not help. Please, if you have any suggestions as to what setting I should change, or what might be the roadblock, reply to this thread. It is taking me over 15 minutes just to process a shipment on the UPS site. Tim
bkellum
Tim, Did you try different browsers from the same computer? You may just need to reinstall the browser. knifeman
Thanks Bill, I did try firefox and it loads just as slow. IE 7 is my default. I forgot to mention that. Tim

knifeman
Yeah, but I cannot convince the DSL people to do anything. They say the modem can't cause this problem. I disabled firewalls on my end and in the modem, all to no avail. If I have time, I am going to call them again Saturday night. Has to be the modem, it is the only thing that changed. knifeman
Thanks Leslie! They have people there, but it is potluck whether you get someone that knows what they are doing or just someone that can read a flowchart. I just downloaded the safari browser. OMG, it loaded ups in less than a second. I may not have found out my problem, but I do have a workaround.
Guest
Did you try speedtest.net to test the speed of your connection? If that checks out ok then its probably not your modem.

He already maintained that a different browser worked fine so the speedtest.net would not assist him with IE and FireFox browser issues. Safari speed was fine. I think this is a browser related issue, possibly a corrupted file. knifeman
Thanks for your suggestion Bill. As I said firefox is slow also, but Safari is kicking butt. Another plus to this is the oscommerce forum is back like it used to be. Back when the forum got so slow, it also only shows one reply in a thread and I must click each reply to read it (IE7). Now in safari, the forum shows all the replies on one page and loads super fast. knifeman
Just for everbodys reference, Safari does not support printing labels from UPS on a thermal printer. Tim
