Is there a specific code for the download link for downloadable products?

I have found the code that paths the pub folder for downloads and have entered it in the configure.php file. Although this is entered correctly the filenames to be download are the exact same and all the permissions are correct I still have not been able to get the download link to come through on the confirmation page or the my accounts page. I wanted to know if there was code needed to generate the link and in what file or folder would that code be located and what the actual code might be. I've also found an example of where someone deleted the product_info.php file and got the link to pop up. They were using sts, nonetheless I am using osCommere. Could doing this generate the download link and how important is this file in the long run. Is there certain code that goes in this folder for the link that perhaps should be deleted or added to get the link. Any assistance is appreciated.
