How to change the appearance of osCommerce?

I am new to osCommerce. Very new. I just started using it today, actually. I've never been the webmaster of any webshop before, but I need to know how to do things, cause I'm opening a webshop real soon. And time is ticking. As we all know, time is money, so I have no time to waste!

 

My question is the following: How do I change the layout? I want to remove the links-system to the left of the screen, so that I can use the left html frame I already made in my website. Also, I've been scrolling through the administration setup, but I just can't seem to find a place where I can change the color of the background and stuff like that. I only find out how I can change the links, and the images of the links in the links-system already in osCommerce, to the left on the screen.

 

Hope you guys understand what I mean, and I'm looking forward to receiving some help and wisdom from the more advanced osCommercers on here!
