Import data from Excel to Populate OSC catalogue

Hi guys weve just installed OSC for the first time and really need some help.

Basically we already have our own "catalog" which we have written in excel with a list of our products (around 1000 or so) - theres a header for the name, the part id number, the price, the weight and the volume.

As well as that each product is sorted into a category and sub category. Of which we have 2 main categories and in each categorie there are subcategories.

We sell parts for bikes and the two main categories are the two main brands of bikes for which we sell parts. The subcategores in both main categories are the same as we sell for example mirrors for both brands of bikes.

Anyhow - and this is where we really need the help - is there some way we can take the data out of the excel file and use it to populate our newly created database inside the OSC. - So that all our parts will be automatically sorted into the right places inside OSC. The only exception being images which I imagine we would have to add manually.

Thanks for reading this and if you have any idea how to approach such a situation it would be greatly appreciated.

I understand that the database on our webserver is "SQL" though this is the first time I have ever looked at it.

Thanks

Art.

Not to sound mean or anything... But, did you search the forum for your answer? I too just got done making a site using this shopping cart and all my data was in excel also. But I did several searches and found the answers in the forum. It's a program called Easy Populate. You have to used the fields it tells you for the product ID, name, description, price, etc. It can be a little challenging, considering I've spend all weekend working on getting the data imported correctly, and finally last night I was able to.

Again, STF (search the forum) for Easy Populate.

Hi Tim thanks for your information - I actually have been doing alot of forum searching of late, I have about 30 tabs open but I hadnt come across that program yet so thanks for the info. I will look it up.

Glad to hear you got your site working and thanks for taking the time to make a response - what kind of issues did you discover if you have any tips how these can be avoided thatd be great if not no worries.

I too had several tabs open while searching. I spent several hours friday night looking through many of many forums for the answer. Make sure when you upload the data, you use the same column headings as the instructions say, otherwise it will not work. It'll be safer to export what you have first and go from there. Make sure EVERY row in excel ends with EOREOR.

Later

Tim
