Changing Attribute Prices without breaking a live store

Recommended Posts

The last time i tried to change the price of an attribute, it completely deleted that attribute from ALL other produicts that it was attached to.. It was suggested that i change attribute prices in the database tables..

i was wondering if someone can give me a little how to step by step on how to actually GET to the prices.. I have looked at it, and i can not find the prices in teh table.

Access your database via phpMyAdmin, select the products_attributes table, click on the edit icon for the price you want to change, edit the price and save. Make an admin database backup before you do anything and you will be ok should you do something wrong.

Did the other thing work ok?

For the products_attributes table, you must catch the right "products_id" / "options_id" / "options_values_id"(you can find them in the url when you click on every product / option / option value), find the right record and modify its "options_values_price"

Notice: backup your database at first!!!

Ohh.. i think i figured it out, with the help of someone trying to accomplish the same thing. I havent tested it yet though..

as for the changing the table.. I think i found where to change it.. i clicked the product_attributes and then BROWSE.. I can see a column with the products_attribute_id and then attributes_id - how do i know which is which?? its all a tad confusing.. The id when i look at the admin side of oscommerce are all in order, and dont seem to match what the table is telling me.

If i am going the change the price of one attribute across the board, how in the WORLD would i do that since attributes dont "technically" have a price attached to them until the are added to theproduct OR created into an attribute set?

......

Are you family with SQL expression?

You can run SQL expression such as "update products_attributes set options_values_price = '9.99', price_prefix = '+' where options_values_id = xxx".

You should replace the "xxx" with the correct option value id, you can get this id from the url(exp:http://domain/admin/products_attributes.php?action=update_option_value&value_id=2) when you click the "edit" button after every option value record in the admin panel.

BTW, click the "SQL" button between "Structure" and "Search" to write and run your SQL expression
