Change new products to Categories on front page

I need to change the default front page content - currently a block of new products. I would like to have categories shown with thumbnail images and linking off to the category pages.

Is there a contrib or how-to somewhere?.........I have looked and failed to find anything

Any pointers very welcome.

There is a contribution for this try a search for all categories this ahould be what you are after
