charmed-imsure
Hi, I just posted a new thread earlier but have since been sent some information which was really helpful & so easy to follow. Now, I've followed every step so far to set this up & it's not working. I'm using IPSwitch as my FTP program. I've uploaded all of Catalog. I've gone into the Config files & changed the attributes to 777, but on checking back, it's changing itself to 700 & can't be changed. I've typed in my web address to do the on-line installer as per instructions & my website looks no different. Nothing's changed. I'm so frustrated. I've spent hours on this. Is something wrong? I'm with Fasthosts. I've been using their Sitebuilder to create my website but it doesn't do what I want which is why I chose to move to OSCommerce. But something is being stubborn & I can't figure it out...

IMO they suck, and I'm still working on my website too BUT I think your problem might be that your old site is still there. When you type in your web address (www.mysite.com) the browser looks for a default.html or index.html. All your work on your OSCommerce site is in a subfolder - go to www.mysite.com/catalog to see your new shop. When you're ready to go live with it you'll need a splash page to replace your index.html - all it really needs to say is Hi, Welcome to mysite.com. click HERE to go shopping, and make that link through to the /catalog folder. Good luck!!
php_Guy
Some people have reported a problem where their host has things set up where they can't change permissions via ftp. It looks like it works but when you exit and restart ftp, the settings are still at the original values. Set the permissions through the control panel's file manager and it should work. uMfazi
Fasthosts is rubbish, and you don't get a cpanel or file manager. BUT I found this post which may help: http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=311072 I've used FileZilla and found it to be great... only it doesn't seem to work on Fast Hosts. At least not for me. I did this. Download Putty. (www.putty.org). It'll sound really geeky and intimidating but it isn't when all is said and done and once you've used it you can scare the hell out of your web designer friends by saying you use Putty! Once you install, log in to your Fast Hosts account and set up an SSH account. You can then log in through putty to ssh.yourdomain.com. Fasthosts will supply your username and you'll have set up the password with them. Enter these when putty asks (you'll need to press enter as it's not graphical so a mouse does sweet FA). Once you are logged in you can change permissions very fast. Type the following: chmod 644 /complete/web/address/of/the/file/that/needs/correct/permissions.php This will fix it. I've had hte exact same issue with trying to change permissions via Dreamweaver/Filezilla/Cute FTP/Ipswich and basically Fasthosts seems to overrule any permissions changes that are made through FTP. However those made by Telnet (as in that's what Putty is running on) always get set correctly and it's the only solution Fasthosts recommend themselves. Hope that saves you a few hairs =) Dani x I'm going to give it a try later. Wish me luck!!
