JipeTrade Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Hello, I have been working on my store now for a few weeks. The store is Technically live and ready to take orders but is not being promoted yet. I am still adding a few touches and possibly some more products. I wanted to see what you think of the layout? Let me know thanks a bunch for any comments or suggestions. http://www.jipetrade.com/shop Running oscommerce-2.2ms2-060817

php_Guy Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 You're on your way to an interesting look. However, there isn't a lot of cohesion atm. It looks like a lot of pieces were thrown together. There needs to be something tying them together. For starters, here's a list of things I think should never be on an osc site: The date The number of page loads since some other date. The osc banner Welcome Guest.... The "->" after category names The category count A languages box with only one supported language (click on the other two and you get various errors - also the other languages still use osc buttons) A currency box (unless there is a pressing need to support other currencies) Any unneccessary boxes (reviews, tell a friend, manufacturers) Images with pixilated borders (the paypal button on the checkout page was designed for a lighter background. It needs some cleanup.) Minor things but removing them usually results in a cleaner look. You've replaced many of the stock buttons and images. Kudos! Make sure the graphics are yours to use though. Often when people display a site for comment that has new graphics for my account, login, checkout, etc, those graphics are copyrighted. If they are, someone will quickly recognize them. Just a heads up if that's the case. When you click on "top" in the breadcrumb, the screen clears and there is text in the upper left corner for a second that is then overwritten "Content for id header goes here", etc. The brown background extends about an inch to the right of everything else (IE7/win@1680x1050) Buttons next to input boxes (tell a friend and search) aren't lined up vertically The white text on the green-grey background is a bit difficult to read. Larger text where possible would help. Sometimes toning down the white a bit can help. Some of your nav buttons display the variable name instead of the variable contents: they need <?php echo variable_name; ?> People with low res screens probably won't like the huge image at the top of every page. Usually you want to stick to about a third of that height. Hope that all helps. Good luck
JipeTrade Posted October 23, 2008 Author Posted October 23, 2008 Some of your nav buttons display the variable name instead of the variable contents: they need <?php echo variable_name; ?> what do you mean by this? I looked but can't figure out what you mean. Thank you so much for taking the time to look it over. I will defiantly look into the things you mentioned and I too feel it is missing something. The buttons are taken from "oscdark" which is supplied in the Contributions - templates area of oscommerce, so they are free to use(in case anyone else wants them as well). I am still learning a lot and since this forum is amazingly big it is somewhat hard to find answers to questions sometimes. But after a couple more weeks I think I will be ready to give it a go and start promoting. Once again thanks for the critique. Running oscommerce-2.2ms2-060817

♥14steve14 Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Your site is starting to look good. If it were mine i would remove the cartoon images from the top right corner of your information pages. The other thing that really annoys me with some websites is that there is no contact address info on a site. If emails fail i like to be able to contact the site by either phome or letter. I did only look quickly, but could not find this info on your site. Your GO button in your quickfind box is not the same as the other buttons. Also these buttons are not aligned with the other box. Alter your advanced search help text to match the items in your store. At the moment they relate to computer items. On sone of your pages it looks as if you still have part of the right column in place whick is giving you a large soace on the right of the page. On the create account page do you really need to know the date of birth. The address format should also be in the order that you would write as a postal address. Thats my bit over. Hope you take some of these ideas on board. REMEMBER BACKUP, BACKUP AND BACKUP
JipeTrade Posted October 31, 2008 Author Posted October 31, 2008 Thanks Steve. I will look into it what you said. Still working on it. School projects been getting in the way.... I added some images for the boxes, are they hard to read? "The Goods" ect. Running oscommerce-2.2ms2-060817
