Hi,

Please could you all have a look through my site and provide any feedback as to its content, style etc.

I really appreciate your thoughts, and theres no better critic than those that are all trying to achieve the same goals

as i suppose everone does, this site is and will always be Work In Progress but my thoughts and ideas may not always be the best.

Many thanks

Smiler

PS. This site is Live so if you are testing my modified checkout screens then please cancel before you confirm your order, otherwise you will be the proud owner of a stylish and modern Fireplace :P

Just a few quick comments:

With Javascript off (my default browsing mode) your left column is a junbled mess of images and text overwritten (screenshot). I don't know how many hardheaded customers like me you'll get, but you might want to consider addin a noscript section with a cleaner appearance.

With Javascript on, I see a couple of annoying animations constantly running in the left column. Again, I don't know how many of your customers will dislike this. It's a personal bug of mine.

The Categories box is a bit hard to read with the white borders around the text.

Products look very nice. Images are good quality and nicely presented.

On one of the the product pages, you have what looks like a list of specifications without the list; everything is jumbled togeather in one paragraph. It's in a different font as well. Other pages are better formatted. You should probably look at all of these and check the formatting.

Stock osCommerce buttons don't match your color scheme, and the white corners make them look odd. The rest of the site design and colors look very good, so the buttons stand out more.

I didn't go all the way through the checkout -- I'm on the wrong side of the pond to get the address stuff right anyway. What I did see looks good.

Generally a nice site that just needs some touchup to look great. Good job!

Regards

Jim

I think your site looks great except for those buttons like Jim said. Also maybe you could try a different font in the header? I dunno, it comes off just a little sloppy (the blue font). It probably is just how the image is saved I know I had a lot of trouble...Maybe no italics would do it. Besides that the site looks nifty.

Thanks for your comments Jim,

I have started making some changes, I am unable to reproduce the Javascript error that you kindly took a screen shot of, if i switch off Javascript admittadly the pictures do expand to one longer column, but all sit nicely with no overlapping, i have however adjusted box sizes to see if this makes a difference.

Buttons to do next, (was always on my todo list, along with removing the remaining stock cartoon pics in some pages.

Many thanks

Thanks for the feedback James, again as with Jims update, the logo is on my todo list, i never liked the way the compresed gif seemed to put jaggy edges on it, as for the blue it does not look that colour on my laptop, i have since viewed this on another screen and it looks a completely different colour, laptop now calibrated

Onwards with the never ending tweaks

thanks

I should have mentioned that I was using Firefox 3.0 on Windows XP. It's still showing the same problem today. I don't know how critical this is to you -- I'm not even in the same country, and I have no idea how many people browse with javascript off. You get to decide if it's worth fixing.

You're quite correct about the tweeks. There's no end of the things that can be done to improve your store. Just keep going; you're off to a good start.

Not my cup of tea. borders around everything.

Buttons as mentioned.

very fussy.

simplify the design (marble effect) and make it clean. sell your products not the marble affect background.

best of luck

Thanks for your Feedback Peter, I had changed the buttons from stock to something that followed the theme of the site, or are you refering to other buttons such as categories etc that are pur links with a bit of CSS ? - You are the first to have gone through checkout, could you give feedback on how that looked compared to the standard, i did spend a lot of time in trying to smarten up checkout

thanks

Chris.
