Hello Everyone,

I am new to this site as well setting up a shopping cart (my skills are more in design). Anyways I am going to attempt to customize this cart to loo more like my client's site and currently the html editor I use is Dreamweaver. Can I use Dreamweaver to edit the Index.php page to my needs.

Thanks

Rick

BTW, I like to see sites like these that give soo much feedback!

no.. index.php is a php file which means that it is service side code and you can not edit in the "design" mode like you would with the html sites.

You can install something in the addons.oscommerce.com called STS which allows you to make an html site and apply that to the php code.. I have never used it, so i dont really know how it works.. but seems like the best option.

A great place for newbies to start

DO NOT PM ME FOR HELP. My time is valuable, unless i ask you to PM me, please dont. You will get better help if you post publicly. I am not as good at this as you think anyways!

HOWEVER, you can visit my blog (go to my profile to see it) and post a question there, i will find time to get back and answer you

it took me a year to learn how to get from basic html knowledge and proficient in dreamweaver to get my site to where i KIND OF want it.. Php is an entirely different language and oscommerce is not a simple software

Rick,

You can use Dreamweaver to work on the osC PHP files, but...

osC is a combination of HTML, PHP, CSS and not a simple easy mix either.

If you only know HTML design then you will be limited to what you can edit quickly. If you also know CSS then you can at least match theme's. If you do in fact know PHP also, then all you need to do is figure out the structure of osC (good luck).

A client that expects a shopping cart up and running to their liking in one day? Dump them!

totally agree with you Jim, if they want it today, well say no more. and yes you can use dreamweaver it is really a great tool to administer the php and css etc. If you dont know php just dont change any of it! and use the css to layout the tables. one really great way of doing things is working locally so that you can see any changes immediately and undo if it doesn't work! good luck
