looks like your site is being hammered by a webbot,

I had this some time ago - thousands of hits in very quick succession

you could try adding a deny to your htaccess file,

but be careful to not make your site invisible tospiders that you want on your site such are googlebot!

 

for example:

Deny From 172.206.88.232

will stop 172.206.88.232 from accessing your site

 

and

Deny From 74.6

 

will stop ANY ip number starting 74.6

looking at your site

 

I added some code to catalog\includes\functions\database.php

to send me an email whenever there is a problem and to

automate the denial of access to bad bots.

 

I think I saw a contribution that will monitor your site and let you know about similar problems,

(Why is it that one only finds contributions AFTER having hacked the code yourself?)

do a search in the contributions for bad bot deny and/or monitor.

The site cam back after 15min, but I would like to try to avoid it again. I have installed the contribution that has a trapdoor in the robots.txt, which will trap bad robots / webbot IP's and ban them. But this bot did not fall for the trap, so must have obey the robots.txt file - so not a bad one, just hammered my site a bit to much!!!

 

Interesting that it came from IBM though - what do they want with a Porsche Parts supplier :blink:

Or could it have been initiated by someone within IBM who is after new parts for his Porsche?!?
