Hello, all

i am new, i recently added pay-pal to get my site up and running quick, but i have arrived at a dead-end even quicker,

a customer logged in and was ready to make a purchase but was un able to do so because my site would not take credit cards, lol , i know now that i need a merchants account, i was wondering if its better to have a separate account for credit cards or have everthing w/ pay-pal?

I have everyhting with paypal and am happy with it.. its a good beginers way to do it.. no upfront costs and decent rates.

A great place for newbies to start

Hey Tony,

Looks like a little clarifying things might help.

You CAN except credit cards and advertise that you do on your site. All you need is a PayPal business acount.

First go to PayPal and sign up for a business account. Then choose either Website Payment Standard or Website Payment Pro (I use Standard).

Second install this contribution - osCommerce PayPal IPN Module v2.3.3 For 2.2MS2 by AlexStudio 16 Nov 2007 (discussion thread - here).

Once everything is setup and installed, your customers will have their choice of how to pay after checking out; i.e. - Master Card, Visa, American Express, Discover or with their PayPal account.

I think Lola meant to disable credit card options in your Admin Panel. I'm not sure about the PayPal contribution she pointed you to. I would recommend the PayPal IPN as it works and was developed by a few experts here. ;)

One thing to keep in mind...

Some customers might get cold feet when they see a PayPal payment page and might back out of the purchase. Post a note on your site stating that a PayPal account is not needed for a customer to process their checkout, that you are using PayPal as your processor and it might help prevent some from running away.
