hercnutrition
Hello We have had our online store running fine for some time. Yet today when we went online we noticed a pink bar at the top of the page that reads Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/hercs/public_html/catalog/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file. We have not changed any settings and no matter what setting when changed the configure file to this warning does not go away. Are there any other files or folders that may need changing that might cause this message? The site is still function fine but this message would potentially leave visitors worried about shopping. Thank you for any assistance. Brad

hercnutrition
Did you try changing the setting via the webhosts control panel filemanager? Thanks for the prompt response. I hadn't tried this yet but have now logged in and see exactly what you are talking about. I had never thought to go via this route. The file in question (includes/configure.php) appears to be set correctly (644) so I am not sure what the setting should be changed to. At this point though I am not even sure of what the correct file permission should be set at and for which files. I am going to search around the forum for this. Would you possibly have this, or a link to it, handy? Again, I really appreciate your help. Brad

php_Guy
Hello Fimble and Coopco Through your input I was able to make the required changes. THANKS TONS!!!! I will definitely keep your comments handy if and when there is a next time. Thanks again Brad If you haven't changed anything to have caused this error message to start appearing, I would contact your host, explain what happened, and ask if they changed something on their end that would affect permissions. It makes me nervous when things change all by themselves. If your host hasn't changed anything, I would suggest looking very closely at your site looking for any new or modified files. And as mentioned, nothing was changed by myself or anyone else to my knowledge. Thanks, I will make a call shortly. Brad
uMfazi
Hi - glad I found this post! I've just done a brand new install and I'm getting the same error. "Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/fhlinux142/t/thebiltonghut.co.uk/user/htdocs/catalog/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file" I've used CHMOD to change the permissions to 644, 444, 600 and even 400 - but the error won't go away. Is it just stupid 'fasthosts' server settings? Is it serious?
