I recently launched my biggest project to date and one that is rather unique in many ways. A website where you can design and purchase a bespoke tailored suit using a series of interactive interfaces. And believe it or not, it's all powered by OSCommerce! Take a look for yourselves...

CAD & THE DANDY

www.cadandthedandy.co.uk

The user journey follows a 3 step process -

1) Choose fabrics - Select and sort fabrics from a categorised animating accordion.

2) Design your garment/s - Chooose how many buttons you want, pockets, collar, cut, the lot. Every small fine details of your perfect suit or shirt can be selected. I created a dropdown menu system of options using AJAX that updated the central sketch. The most fun and unique part of the site.

3) Take your measurements - Using a helpful visual guide to walk you through every measurement. This is probably the trickiest part - to gain the users confidence and provide clear unserstanding of how to take their measurements.

During the user journey the right panel updates with the users choices.

Any feedback and constructive suggestions would be most helpful. As we all know the hardest part of any web project is the ability to step back and take an objective seat as to the design and funcionality.

We have tested the site with family and friends following basic usability methods. No budget for official testing i'm afraid. But would be good to get some feedback from the general web design community (that's right you! Smile

Man thanks. I hope you enjoy the site and look forward to your comments!

live stores discussed in this channel must be powered by osCommerce Online Merchant and have the "Powered by osCommerce" text displayed on the site.

I think you'll find it is powered by osCommerce Online Merchant v2.2 RC1.

I've added the "Powered..." text to the footer.

That is what is required.

Had a brief look, and it looks very good.

VERY VERY nice look.. you did a LOT of customization on the store and i am happy to see that it looks NOTHING like the stock oscommerce.. VERY good job

On the other hand.. the fabric chooser was REALLY slow to load (and i have a fast cpu w/ fast connection) AND it loaded with everything opened and THEN closed all of the tabs for me to browse. is there a way to load the colors as a choose them instead of all of them at once? It seems that would speed things up a little

I LOVE how the "product image" changes when you get to the second step to show you the attribute you chose. I have been desperately waiting for a contribution like this that hasnt come around yet.. maybe you would consider adding one???

A great place for newbies to start

I agree. The fabrics take a while to load and this is one of the main issues at the moment. Even an AJAX loader hiding the fabrics until they are fully loaded would help. Tricky one. But something we're looking into.

As you mentioned a LOT of customisation went into this baby - something along the lines of 'Pimp my OSCommerce' possibly? Loads of new features already planned for the future. With a lot of customisation of the admin area also.

are you considering making any of these customizations into contributions?? i know that some probably rely on others, but i think it would be a GREAT idea

Most probably not i'm afraid. I had a lot of out-sourced help with the functionality so they'd have to be the ones to create any contributions. Something to think about possibly.
