osCommerce

The e-commerce.

Can I simply create my own header.php file & replace it with the one already there?

I've read complex instructions with code changes in changing the logo & navigation buttons & header color, etc. My question is, why not just create your own .html file with Dreamweaver (or any other software) where you position your logo where you want it, your buttons where you want them, the header color, & anything else you may want up there, and then save it as header.php & replace the existing header.php file? It'd be SO much easier than all of the instructions I've seen on this topic. I even tried it and it seems to work. Does anyone see any downfall to doing it this way?

It does a number of checks which might need attention. It also shows the breadcrumb trail I think from memory.

Its not hard to edit it, all you have to do is replace part of the stock code with the html from your new file.

Doing that will break the shop since the new file wouldn't have the needed code that file adds. But even if you add that code back in, the links will be formatted incorrectly and will cause site problems. However, you can use that approach to create sections of it and place that in the header file. Then edit the links to use the oscommerce format.

The Simple Template System for osCommerce will let you do exactly what you listed above.
