php_Guy Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 There are tons of mods available. Most are personal preference. These I would consider mandatory: Security Pro Sitemonitor IP Trap .htaccess Protection Anti-XSS Ultimate SEO URLs v2.1d ORIGINAL Updated (Not anything newer) Header Tags SEO v3.0 If I missed anything crucial I'm sure someone will add a comment below :)

Guest Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I don't think header tags is crucial. I use cDynamicMetaTags and Ultimate SEO URLs, both of which are great! HeaderTags SEO is wonderful too, but a bitch to install. I never did get it right so had to uninstall.
php_Guy Posted October 15, 2008 Author Posted October 15, 2008 I am quite new at OScommerce, and not very fluent with html and coding. do you think it is anyone out there that could help me install the mods to my installation, i definately do not want to have my site tampered with. There are for-hire folks out there but most mods are fairly easy to install if you are careful to follow the instructions included with them. A person with no html or php knowledge should be able to install all the mods listed in an hour. Along with those mods, you will want to restrict permissions on files to 644 and directories to 755, including the ones that osc says to set to 777 (either through your ftp program or your hosts's cpanel interface). @Webbydeb: Header Tags does more than just create meta tags. That's why I went with it over cDynamicMetaTags. Meta tags are much less important with Google than they used to be. However, 'crucial' may be a bit over stated for either.
php_Guy Posted October 18, 2008 Author Posted October 18, 2008 I can't believe I forgot this one! Easy Populate
WoodsWalker Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Thanks for the list, php_Guy! I'll check out your suggestions. In particular, I need to make my site more search-engine-friendly. A contribution I have found most useful is Order Editor. It's easy to install, and lets you easily edit orders that have already been placed (ever had a customer call you and say, "I just placed an oder on your online site, but I want to add x, y and z"? It's nice to be able to do it easily). Live long and prosper, ~Wendy
