free templates?

I found some pretty nice free templates online,

are these template really free or doesn it come with some bombs in the code? are they safe to use?

they will probably not work. They will probably get an 1054 error and if you fix that it will display "The are no products to display..."

 

i've tried :(

I'm currently using the one from Template Monster as a test.

 

I've got that working without any issues, also modified it for my site integration too.

 

I'm going to purchase that exact template, as it's available for sale for $140, so I have a licence to use it rather than having it on a demo only type agreement.

wow what version om PHP and MYSQL do you use and what version is the store is it? Is is the newest.

Be aware that after installation of a TM template, it is difficult (though not impossible) to get support for it.

 

Any chance you can elaborate on this please.

 

I tried asking if there were any issues with using templates, specifically from TM, and didn't get any real replies.

 

What happens with updates for osC? Do I then need the updated template rather than applying the updates of osC itself.

 

I'm using the print store template, offered as a free demo from TM to test before buying one. But it just happens that this template it pretty perfect for integration into my site. I'm almost tempted to just continue using it, they want $140 for me to actually buy it, but I already have it as a full download, so I can't see what else I'd get from actually buying it, especially if their support is non-existent, which I would expect if I was to pay for it.

That helps a lot indeed.

 

It does mean I have a lot more work ahead that I had hoped for, but sounds like it will be worth it.

 

I've just spent the last 18 months working with phpbb3 and have just about got to grips with that. It was a bit of a suprise to find that ocS did not have a simple style plugin type system.

 

I'd seen the thread on STS, but didn't read further than the title and the 200 plus pages of thread.

 

I'll get reading :)

Ok, so I now have in one evening gone from the Template Monster based site:

To a fresh RC2a install with STS and a template built up from aspects of the TM site:

Not done by a long way yet, but I'm suprised at how much I managed to achieve in one evening. The STS system is amazing, pretty much a plug and play template setup which I'm used to with phpbb3 now I've got my head around it all.

And I bet like you feel you learned a bit about osCommerce "hangs together" - which is impossible when just installing a template.

For STSv4.5.8, the proper support thread is located at the STSv4 Forum (see link in my signature below).

 

I suggest to start reading at the end of the thread (most recent posts) and work your way through. It is not necessary to read the support thread as STSv4.5.8 comes with a very detailed User Manaul.

 

You can also download a free STS template from the STS Add-on site (called STSv4 Power Pack, a site dedicated to STS Add-ons). The link is listed in my signature below as well.

I have got my site up , so far so good, and I have used seo,, google checkout package. I just need to get the sales tax striaght now
