NASTY spam too. I can tolerate the annoying text and link spams, but the ones with the photos in it are getting a little frustrating. Why cant oscommerce make a script that sends an email to the new user and they have to click through the email to activate their account?? this is fully automated and needs no man power A great place for newbies to start Road Map to oscommerce File Structure DO NOT PM ME FOR HELP. At least that's what I've read. I have noticed that there is usually a gap of between 12 and 24 hrs between an obvious spammer registering and making their spam post. On another forum using the same software I now put suspect new members under 'Moderation' - posts have to be approved by a Moderator until we are as certain as we can be that they're not spammers. I do also enjoy changing the Forum Name of spammers, after adding them to the 'Banned' group, to names like "Spammer" or "Another Spammer" or "Idiot Spammer" or "Stupid Spammer". It's fun to see them all online but unable to post. The main problem here is that HTML code is allowed in posts. I do find this very odd, because it's not a default Invision Board setting (by default HTML code is 'off'), and I'm certain it wasn't 'on' until recently. I can't remember people being able to embed HTML code in their posts previously. Only Harald can alter that setting, and as he's not about nothing can be done about it. I find it very odd indeed that Harald, of all people, would allow HTML code to be embedded in forum posts. View members profile. Then they slowly drift off the online list after an hour. They never view a topic and never search for anything. This one just did that: Goastyassed I'd bet if you check in 12 to 24 hours they will have been back, spammed the forum, and gotten banned. You may have missed it, but there are sites out there now selling a service to post your spam to 1,000s of forums a day, thats why its got bad. Their the ones that should be hung, drawn & quatered. There were around 50 of them each day from October 1. And there were definitely different spammers judging by the names they chose, IP-addresses they came from (there were accounts created from the same IP-address they were spamming from, others were from different IP-addresses). A lot of them were easy to recognize but some were not (members also choose crazy user names and real names - KKK (?)). Jan will be glad. You bet. Finally time to do something productive instead of deleting 50 or so bogus accounts each evening (and no doubt some legitimate new members accidently).
