arietis Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 Could someone help with this question please, i have uploaded the files and on reading the instructions i need to add a username to secret.php file. What username would this be?? and where can i find it that's the user name for the web site. it needs the full path to the directory where the ip_trapped.txt file is going to be. if you're not sure of what your server's user name is (usually your ftp or host's control panel login user name) you can find the same information in your configuration.php file. just look for the DIR_FS_CATALOG definition and you'll get most of the path.
ulefos Posted October 12, 2008 Author Posted October 12, 2008 Found and nearly sorted, when i check the site, after uploading it all seems to work apart from the ip is not in the IP trapped.txt file i get the banned page and the email when tested. Ive checked everything and cant seem to see where im going wrong all advice much appreciated
arietis Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 when i check the site, after uploading it all seems to work apart from the ip is not in the IP trapped.txt file there are multiple places where that file name is referenced. in multiple files too, if i remember right (it's been a while since i installed that one...) be sure that you've changed all references. it may find the file the first time, but end up writing to a different file, then redirecting to your banned page. so it looks like it's working, but it's not.
Guest Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 You need to change the file permissions on the IP_Trapped.txt file to 777. - Andrea
arietis Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 You need to change the file permissions on the IP_Trapped.txt file to 777. it'd be better to see if 755 will work first, before going to 777. with permissions of 777 anybody can write to it.
Guest Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 I'm just following directions. LOL. I installed this same contib this afternoon. It's very cool. The author said to chmod that file to 777. There's some additional things one can do to prevent anyone from reading the file, but I don't see anything about prevention of writing to the file. How would that happen, anyways? I mean, how could another person write to the file? They would have to have access to my Cpanel id and password, right? - Andrea
