Hi, I have never used OsCommerce before, and I have a client in a mess with their hosting. I have installed OSCommerce to a new hosting facility, which seems all fine and installed the MySQL database also fine. I have the files for the previous osCommerce shop, but the previous databse(s) are shot I suspect. And the admin folder is looking a bit suspect. How easy is to to upload the previous shop, will it integrate with the new database, and what do I need to ensure. I hope this is more straightforward than I fear it might not be. The shop on their site seems to be working just fine, but there no access to the admin side of things.

Many thanks

Jack

if the versions of oscommerce on the old and the new sites are the same, you should have no problems. if the versions are different, there still may be no problems - depending on how old the version is. if you have a backup (or can reinstall) then there's not too much risk in just trying it and seeing how far you can get.

but if the database is 'shot', then you may just be completely out of luck. why do you suspect that it's bad? do you have some older backups of the database from the old shop that you can use? maybe and older backup would get you most of the way.

if you need access to the admin area, you might be able to delete the records in the administrators table, which then allows you to create a new administrator and password and then you'd have access. if not through the osc admin, maybe you can do a backup using phpmyadmin.

if the database is there and working, you should be able to get it into the new shop.
