Well I thought I was doing ok...from the installation doc's (pg 5 of 114) I opened my web browser, went to my http://myserver/catalog/install and followed the instructions... answered a few questions over a few pages and ended up on an osCommerce page, titled New Installation...I entered my store name, owner name, ya da, ya da... and eventually got a finished page with a catalog button...clicking on the catalog button I get to my Welcome page with warning messages. One I was able to fix from reading posts (whew) but I'm not seeing the other...PLEASE, would someone help guide me to correct this warning:

Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/content/ etc....html/catalog/includes/configure.php

I'm instructed to set the right user permissons on this file, but I don't know where to find it or the permissions setting button to make changes.

I'm guessing I didn't get past step 2, the persistent connections stuff either...

Beth,

You will need to know what type of server your site is hosted on. If it is an Apache server (most likely), then you would simply use your FTP Client software or the Cpanel File Manager to change the file permissions for the following two files:

admin/includes/configure.php

includes/configure.php

These should be set to 644.

Hope this helped,

Bill Kellum

Thank you Bill ~ I'm almost there (I think) I found the file through my file manger...and I found my little permissions icon/button too...and the next window gives me:

Permissions

Set permissions for selected files and/or folders.

[X] Web Visible Allows users to browse files and directories using the Web.

[ ] Executable Allows users to execute files as scripts.

I don't see anywhere that I could enter those numbers (644)

Am I supposed to be in the file manager of my hosting site or on oscommerce, to find these permisson settings. (Told you I was a newbie!)

File Manager of your hosting site (CPanel account).

See the following Cpanel Tutorial (one of many tutorials available on the subject): http://www.siteground.com/tutorials/cpanel...permissions.htm

It is also very easy to do inside a FTP program. Simply right click on the file and select Properties/CHMOD.

Bill ~ you have been very kind in helping me, I'm still getting the warning message, and I'm tuckered out from a long day already. I'll attempt this again tomorrow. I've done a copy/paste of the message, just in case I didn't describe it correctly. I will also try to make heads-or-tails out of the tutorial link you sent (Thanks!) Good night & Thank You!

/html/catalog/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file.
