php_Guy Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 People keep talking about cheap SSL certificates ($25-$50) but Thawte and Verisign charge considerably more. What is the difference?

As in all things, you get what you pay for. I learned this when I bought a "cheapie" cert from GoDaddy. It had 128 bit encryption, no problem. But when attempting to view the secured page in a browser (both IE & Mozilla) one received dire warnings from both browsers that although the cert was valid, it was issued by a non-recognized source. IE, in particular, would not let you accept the cert, while Mozilla reluctantly allowed the user to accept the cert, permanantly. Buy only from a major, recognized company.
danjt Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 The Go Daddy cert aint recognised by Safari either... go for Thawte! It's not much more money and will probably make whatever extra you spend back for you in sales due to extra confidence in your site
