You can upload a JPG the size of 300 x 400 for better customer viewing. The thumbnailer will reduce the size for the catalog pages using PHP's GD Library, and the pic's will look great.
WoodsWalker Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Hi MoonBat, If your images are pre-formated to the size you want, then you can remove your settings from the admin section (simply leave them blank if desired). Then osC cannot interefere with the image quality. I find that loading a rather large image and then using the admin settings to reduce it where required works for me, as long as I set only the width or the height - not both! Hope this helps, ~Wendy
jhande Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Hey John, If you are referring to your images coming out fuzzy within your graphics program, there's a few things you can try. First, JPEG format is a lossy image format. Meaning the more you edit and/or save the image, pixels get discarded. So try resizing either in one step or a few to see which produces the better results. Once you have your image the correct size, check your programs filter options. I have better luck using "unsharp mask" apposed to "sharpen". I am not sure which graphics program you are using, but I started out with JASC Paint Shop Pro. My images came out ok, but not overly great. I have tried a few other programs over the years which I was very dissatisfied with and finally coughed up the money for Photoshop. You just can't beat Photoshop as far as ease and quality results. I created 120 x 86 thumbnail images from originals as big as 500 x 400. Also my larger images were all reproduced to 350 x 200 from images anywhere from 150 x 90 to 500 x 400. You can see them here - Hande's Hobbies. I have the image sizes set accordingly in my admin panel. Hope that might help some. ;) P.S. Don't forget... also try playing with brightness and contrast! - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -
