VPSsupport Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Hi, I want to be able to give a discount if you buy 2 or more of the same product, are you able to doo this in product attributes. Have tried playing about with product attributes but cant get it to work correctly. Already have ccgv(trad) installed so installing another discount mod may conflict, am I right in thinking this? Many thanks Regards, Clive

Many thanks Ummmm, how bout "Second X Product" -$45 ? This would work, but wouldn't subtract from stock. Its also a pretty crappy way of getting it working. Personally, I'd create a new contrib for the purpose as attribs just won't cut it.
lindsayanng Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 no.. but there is a contribution called Discount Quantity Price Breaks.. its GREAT and you can set quantities where you can offer discounts on certain products.. no need for a new contribution A great place for newbies to start Road Map to oscommerce File Structure DO NOT PM ME FOR HELP. I did that with the product attributes. - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -
VPSsupport Posted October 8, 2008 Author Posted October 8, 2008 Hi Jim, Thanks for your reply - yes this is exactly what I was looking for!!! So it is possible to set up in the standard attribute section in admin? I did try to do this but couldnt quite get it to work exactly. Would it be possible to post a simple example? Thanks again. Hey Clive, Not sure if this is what you are trying to do or not, but take look - here. I did that with the product attributes. Regards, Clive
jhande Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Would it be possible to post a simple example? I'm not so good with simple, hopefully this helps. Step 1 First download and install this contribution - Actual Price in Pull Down Option Menu 1.2.3a by AlexStudio 5 Mar 2006 Step 2 Then install your products as normal to your catalog. Now you can play with the product attributes as follows. I'll use my Aluminum paint attribute as an example. Step 3 First you need to give the attribute a name. It will also be seen by customers as shown to the left of the drop down menu - here (¼ oz bottle discount). Type the name in box A and click insert. Step 4 Now for the available options to go along with the attribute name you just created above. Find your attribute name in box A. Then in box B type what will show in the product drop down menu for each option (one at a time LOL) and click insert. As you can see I added four options to the "¼ oz bottle discount" attribute name. Now for the fun math part. :) Step 5 In box A find your product that you entered in Step 2 In box B find the attribute name you created in Step 3 In box C find the value you created in Step 4 Ready for some math? In box D you need to add the sum of your discount price minus the original price - Knowledgebase Attributes Example: My original product price is $1.54. Buy 3 at a $1.50. So - 3 times 1.50 equals 4.50 minus 1.54 equals (2.96) value entered in box D In box E you add a plus (+) sign because you are adding the price of 2 discounted products to 1 at the original price. Oop's forgot... For the option of buying just the one original item with no discount, just enter 0.00 into box D as it will use the product price you entered when adding the item to your catalog. Hope that helps! ;) - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -
VPSsupport Posted October 8, 2008 Author Posted October 8, 2008 Jim, Thank you far taking the time to post these detailed instructions, I am sure there are many of us out there that will find it useful!! I have followed your instructions and everything appears to work as it should but for some reason my "just one bottle, thanks" doesnt appear at the top like I would like. ID Product Name Option Name Option Value Value Price Prefix 17 16 Treatments 200ml discount options 2 bottles = £3 0ff 11.9500 + 8 16 Treatments 200ml discount options Just 1 bottle, thanks 0.0000 + So the default option is 2 bottles, not the Just 1 bottle. Any ideas why it is doing this? Again, thanks for taking the time. I'm not so good with simple, hopefully this helps. Any ideas why it is doing this? Oop's... sorry Clive it's been such a long time that I played with this feature. :blush: I also installed this contribution - Sorting Attributes by PelleonUK 29 Nov 2005. Another (more complicated) contribution which gives you more accurate control of the attributes - Product Attributes Sort Order. I have no clue which version to recommend as I haven't used that contrib. Sorry about that oversight. Glad I could help. ;) - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -
K_Casault Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Is the only resolution to attribute sort order a contribution? It really seems like osCommerce would have this natively! Too many contributions make me nervous. I'm worried they will compliacte each other. :(
VPSsupport Posted October 8, 2008 Author Posted October 8, 2008 Dont worry its only a minor coding change nothing to get worried about - take a look at the contribution files suggested by Jim, the changes took less time than the time it took Jim to write the post :) ;) Is the only resolution to attribute sort order a contribution? jhande Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Hi Kim, Yes one would think that osC could handle a simple sort order. I tried dozens of times adding the attributes in different sequences in hope that osC would display them as I wanted, but to no avail. So I searched for the least complicated and easiest contribution to resolve the problem. It really isn't that bad adding contribution after contribution to your shop as long as you take it one at a time and test your results. The most important aspect of adding multiple (or even one) contributions is finding one that has a proven track record and carefully editing the code. Altough my shop looks pretty much like a stock osC install, I have dozens of contributions added with a few edits of my own. And I'm not done yet... LOL :P - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -
K_Casault Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 OK, I feel reassured. One more question before I download it. It says it sorts by price or alpha and suggests it will sort by order entered. Order entered is the way I will have to go, but it doesn't say for sure if that is an option. Can any of you who have the contribution installed tell me for sure? Thanks for your help! Kim
VPSsupport Posted October 9, 2008 Author Posted October 9, 2008 sort by way I entered worked for me:) OK, I feel reassured. One more question before I download it. jhande Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Sorry Kim, I only installed the sort by price code. - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -
K_Casault Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 OK, that was indeed really easy. For anyone else who comes across this thread... 1) The contribution only requires changing one line of code. 2) If it's not too late, change the code before you associate your attributes with your products. 3) Sort by price sorts by order entry if all prices are equal. Thanks for the help everyone!
jhande Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 You are welcome. Glad I was of some help :) - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -
