Tom- Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Hi guys, After some advice, I suspect there is a contribution out there for this already, it's just a case of finding the right words to locate it, I was hoping you guys could help. Please visit: www.atlantisaquatics.co.uk/catalog (it's important you do type catalog as a current shop in Actinic is running at the root domain) If you navigate through Marine & Reef > Additives & Treatments for instance everything works fine, but I would like category descriptions at the top for each step of the way. For instance, when you click Marine & Reef you are taken to a thumbnail page where you can select your category, which is fine, but above that and below the word "Categories" I would like to be able to type a description about what we offer. The same for all the individual categories too, such as Additives & Treatments, I'd like to put a description about our products there. I've tried "Category Description" in the contributions but seem to get more ideas related to META Description tags, this isn't what I want. I want a viewable introduction to the category page rather than just mindless navigation. Hope this is clear, if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great! Tom
Jack_mcs Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 There are three contributions that do that. Two are named Categories Description. The third is Header Tags SEO. If you don't currently have a meta tags contribution installed, then Header Tags SEO is the way to go. If you do, or you don't want meta tags installed (which is a mistake, by the way), then either of the first two will do what you want. Jack Hi Jack, I do want META tag descriptions and such like, but for the purpose of this post I didn't want that to come back as replies from people if you see what I mean. I wanted actual visual category descriptions/summaries as you use the site. META tags are and will be running on the shop. Am I right in thinking Header Tags SEO will do everything I require yes? Sorry for not being clear.
Jack_mcs Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Yes, that is one of its options. It will allow you enter a description for each category in admin and that description will then display under the category name on the category page. This is different than the description meta tag, which it also handles. A lot of people make the mistake of installing one of the category descriptions contribution and then decide to install Header Tags. Since that part of the code is altered by each, it causes problems with the installation. That's why I said if you don't have a meta tags contribution installed, it is best to install Header Tags SEO. It will solve more than one problem at once.
