Layout Feedback for RV Parts is appreciated. Also response and load times can be commented on.

Well it's simple, which can be very good. I really like the green you picked. It's very nature-y. That's a word.

Is "Rv'ers" a proper term? I think "RV Owners" or "RV Enthusiasts" or something would look nicer in your header.

There's a thumbnail contribution which will make your small images look really good. I installed it, and I only cried once. Let me know if you want the link. You do have to make your own small images though. But Lindsay put a tip on how to do it all at once in Photoshop...

The "Specials" section could use a bigger image - it's not really clear what I'm supposed to be adding to my cart.

For the categories, since all your images are different sizes, maybe you could make buttons with the name of the category and just a tiny pic in the corner so they're consistent.. Not that you have to follow my example, but this is what I mean... for my categories I just put a black button and added the pic to the corner... Mine

Now, back to my puppy... Isn't he cute?!!

PS: I see you are trying to hijack this post with your puppy scheme.

OK, I'll stop it... This is part of the post from my thread where Gary/Burt recommended this one he made:

1. Two sizes of image. A thumbnail (this is the standard product_image) and a large_product_image. This large products image is used only in the pop-up...the thumb is used everywhere else. I use http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/5777

It works awesome, my small images look ten times better now. I guess it depends what version you use, but it turned my catalog page in admin into a fatal error until I commented out the code about the session id's, but it was easy to fix, so if it gives you any errors, don't freak out. Like I did. And uninstalled the whole thing... Lemme know if you have questions. If the answer is really realy easy, I might be able to help.

The only problem with that is you have to upload two images. We have over 10k products. If you are referring to the images being blurry & somewhat distrorted that is due to the low resolution I have set the thumbnails to (decreases file size and decreases load time). I can increase the quality via the admin side. Basically what you suggested is already automated on website. You can do the same as long as your webserver has ImageMagick installed. The contrib can be found @ http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/2094

You can see it is the same result as your website when you click an image to enlarge.

Oh... OK. Well I liked it. But I only have about 150 products on so far, and I did have to do it manually, so I see why this wouldn't work for you.

Basically, with ImageMagick it is installed on the server so it resizes and resamples the images on the fly. So, all you have to do is upload the largest image and it does the rest.

Well NOW ya tell me! ;) This one works for me though. Having so few products probably makes a big difference in what kind of add-ons you want to try. I go for the one with the fewest files and add whatever I have to manually... Someone once told me I have too much time on my hands, but I can't remember who that was... :P

Is that a trick question? Are you being serious all of a sudden? If not, you've trumped me good, because I don't get it!

Nice answer! I will take that as a "no." I was going to suggest you use your time wisely and upload your products to froogle.com. Look @ this http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/4513.

I actually like it.. I think that your site fits in well with a lot of the other outdoorsy types of sites. The look over all is good.. You have a consistent theme and colors through out.. nothing looks lke its over done, but still not too underdone either..

On the other hand, you product images need work!! I'm not sure what you have going on, but the small images look pixelated, and that isnt always due to low resolution. It happens sometimes when you squeeze a large image into a small holder.. THEN, when you click on certain products, the pop up image is SMALL.. A BIG BIG BIG pet peeve of mine. A couple of the images dont even pop up. you click on them and it looks like it might do something but nothin ghappens.

I LOVE the little box you have added with the shipping costs, ask a question, ect.. was that a contribution you use or did you create it yourself.. if you did, you should consider adding it as an addon. There is one issue with that though.. you java is making the window pop UNDER The large one, so it seems like its not working..

Your site does load a little slow for me.. but it could be a number of things..i would maybe do a speed test on it..

but your first issue you HAVE to tackle is your images.

A great place for newbies to start

It is a resolution issue. If you look again I have change the quality back to 100% (20% before). The reason for this is load time (lower quality, smaller file sizes). I am not sure what you mean about

you java is making the window pop UNDER The large one, so it seems like its not working
.

Also, I cannot replicate

.

Can you give more specifics?

What is your connection speed? Browser?

I created it myself. Well it is css based. Meaning the tables have been wiped. So, idk if it will be useful.

If you are using FF you might want to close the popup images before you click on another?

I can clarify.. When i click on the images, they are popping up, but under the main image, not over. So when i THOUGHT that they weren;t working, i was wrong, they were creating a new window, it was just underneath the main window so i didnt see it until i closed out the entire browser.

Also, you can have good looking images and a decent load time. I have a photography website, so we NEED good looking images, but we dont want to load time to be insane.. We actually created our own thumbnails though, and those autothumbnailers are notorious for making not so good quality images.. I think the dpi and res just never quiet are correct.

As for the images that pop up, you do not have a large image to pop up when i click on an image, which is a pet peeve..

The images are the size they are in order to cut down on labor costs. As for load time you can test your own site out with this useful website. http://websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/

PS: Google rewards low file sized websites.
