Explanation of Order Process Required

Hi

Can someone possibly clarify how the ordering process works or can work? Here is my problem.

When a customer makes and order and confirms the order they then have to go straight through the paymant process.

I was hoping that the order could be confirmed and that the customer sould come back later and pay for the order.

I installed the contribution to allow manual editing of orders thinking that if a costomer placed an order I could make changes to, say the price or delivery charge and the customer could then log in later ,,select the order then pay for it!

Is the system working the way it should or do I need some other changes to be made. I was wondering what the point of editing an order manually is after the order is paid for?

If someone can explain I would be very grateful.

Many Thanks

Garry,

A simple way around this would be to enable the 'cash on delivery' payment module, but slightly change the text in the language files so that the payment option says 'Pay via Invoice' (or something similar). The customer would then not have to provide any payment details and his/her order would be confirmed. The order would display as 'Pending' in your admin panel, allowing you to edit the order and then send them an invoice via PayPal (for example). He/she could then pay via PayPal following the link inside the email. When you have received the payment you can update the order status in your admin panel.

Obviously this is a less automated solution to the one you may want, but it is far easier to implement. The solution you are after would take some customisation to the core osCommerce files and how the payment process works. It wouldn't necessarily be hard if someone knows what they're doing, but it would cost money. The solution I detailed above is easy to implement and, best of all, free.
