Here it is - well almost !

Hi all !

Well it's been a while .... this is my first site for a couple of years !

How has everyone been keeping?!

Y'know, for this site (it's for myself), I looked at some 'competitors' to osCommerce - even spent some time building a site around them, but despite all their bells and whistles, the core of good ol' osC was a much better base (IMHO) to build a store on - so there you go....

As I mentioned, it's been a while since I built a site in anger!

As I post this, I know there are a TON of things still to do, I have a to-do list that just doesn't seem to be getting any smaller!

Some Obvious things :

There are only some #test# products on the site at the moment - most of the category links don't go anywhere!

shared ssl , sometimes this works - but in this instance it doesn't ! so a 'proper' ssl cert is on its way

I'm hoping to complete the site over the next week or so - I would Really appreciate any constructive feedback, first impressions, general advice, thoughts - so I'm not missing anything.

I should point out that this site is for Lingerie and has (or will have) a general adult theme so if your under 18 or easily offended, please don't look at it.

At the time of posting, only a few of the categories have any product - try Lingerie > Chemise (see if you can spot the obvious spelling mistake!)

Anyways, I'll stop rabbiting on and give you the link will I?

I like it - other than the drop down menu which I like the dropdowns but don't like the tabs - make em sexier.

Your dropdown doesn't appear to be carrying SID, so that's something you need to look at.

Hi Burt,

Thanks for that - I totally agree that the tabs are a bit blocky.

I'm looking to soften them up a bit and possibly make them rounded?

It's a bit tricky though trying to achive a 'clean' design and still give the site some character - I am not a designer - I'm sure this kinda thing comes easy to other people....

The sid is an ongoing issue I've been having - all the links to the site will have the proper osC coded links (on my to-do list) . Obviously the prefered way to go is cookie based sessions rather than in the url - this isn't working out at the moment as I'm using a shared ssl, the plan is to stick to url sid's then switch over in the next couple of weeks to cookie based once a proper ssl is organised.

I really like the look of the front page. Did you use a template or did you do it yourself?

I really like he drop down menu too.. did you use a contribution for that? or is there a script somewhere around for it?? I would love to do something similar on my pet store website. I have been fighting with the layout of themain categories for a while.. this might really work!!

Nice graphics, but you have a lot of work making the links actually work.

Well a lot of it doesn't work as yet (as you stated) .. but who cares! great job!

Sort the config issue with persistent osCsid though because that will give you grief.

Hi,

sorry I took so long to come back.

The site is all done in css, the menu also css , with hard coded links (thats why most don't work yet!) - it's a bit tricky getting everything to work, stay aligned and work in all the main browsers though!

If anyone wants a bit of sample code to see the menu css, drop me a pm and I'll knock a sample up.

yep, thanks for that, it was one of my thoughts - although I suspect the problems should clear when I move to cookie sessions and a private ssl?

yes, and this is only one line on the to-do list!!!

Its all good fun though isn't it?

oh yea.. theres nothing more fun that doing links in oscommerce.. it drives me CRAZY sometimes... I figured it was CSS and thought about stu's website, and i LOVE IT!! I will PM you..

Aside from that, GREAT JOB.. like i said.. i love the images and the use of giant images instead of people who use loads of text and such.. If you need help with linking, just post away..

Thanks everyone so far for the awesome reviews - it gives me a lot of confidence that I'm moving in the right direction.

I'm slowly working towards getting the site ready for launch (or should that be lunch!) but there have been a couple of changes over the weekend - most obvious is the front page layout (I felt the first attempt was just too busy looking)

I wonder, did anyone manage to try out the product image zoom - there aren't many test products on there with multiple images for the zoom feature : here's one though Test Product With Multiple Images

I'd be really gratefull if a few good folks could give it a try and let me know how it worked for them.

Thanks again to all for your feedback so far.
