The e-commerce.

Complete redesign

Guest

Recommended Posts

After posting request for feedback on my first site, I realized that there was a lot of user unfriendly stuff about it, so I completely redesigned it. There are still a few things I know I need to fix (wrong color update button, weird problem continuing shopping, STUPID slow loading problem etc)

Can I get opinions again without scaring anyone away like last time...lol

Needs a lot of cleaning up.

You tables dont line up AT ALL.. theya re all off by a few pixels and makes the whole site look off..

your carousel doesnt look right because you have some images that have white backgrounds and some that are transparent. I also dont think that thing belongs on your site anyway.. its a cool graphic and feature, but just doesnt work for your store's design.

The header REALLY needs work. It looks like a 1990's graphic, or some myspace-esque design with all that sparkle and movement..

You still have the CRAZY sizes and no way to search just by item type.. what if i just want a cute shirt.. I SHOULD be able to look at the SHIRTS section, and then choose the size via an attribute.. i dont understand WHY you still have it like that. it loks really bad in the category page too.. just a bunch of numbers..

Still need some kind of better looking menu. the category menu is just bleh.

What exactly did you change about the navigation>??

You know Lindsay, I see your posts on the feedback forum all the time and you love to rip apart and belittle most every site, constructive criticism is not your forte obviously, you just rip apart, never offer helpful advice. A note, this is my 2nd ever ecommerce site and I thought I am doing well considering the huge learning curve. Did it ever occur to you too that I have not implemented some stuff cause I haven't learned how to yet? All you do when you critique a website is b****, b****, b****, but I forgot you are the OSCommerce God. You remind me of Linux fanatics who downgrade anything that is not what they use or do, giving Linux users the unfortunate stereotype of being clannish nuts.

A question, do you recall ever learning how to do stuff, or were you born with the complete knowledge of how to do things? My training is in networking, I had a very basic html knowledge so I had to read read read just to get my wife and I's commerce site up. It is not perfect but it works and over time I hope to improve it 100 fold and enjoy doing it too, all the while listening to constructive criticism. I have always been civil and courteous to you when replying on your threads but unfortunately this just got my gall.

By the way your tables are off on your site, shifted to far over and the feng shu of your site is jacked.

ok. whatever you say. I never say anything other than my observations from a design stand point. I offer ideas on what to add and not to add and if they need help doing so, they post in the general section and i tell them HOW - to teach them to teach themselves how.

This is my second site ever too.. EVER IN MY LIFE.

I have gotten positive and negative feedback on it..

What is a critique if it isnt critisim. Plus, i never ONCE said i was an oscomemrce god.. i know less about coding than a lot of people.. what i DO know is design because its something that i am good at. SOme people have an eye for design, some dont. I try to offer my help and ideas on stuff like that

Take a look at one of your competing sites on here. There is a guy who needed help on this BABY CLOTHING STORE.. i said the SAME things to him that i said to you.. guess what, the started to make changes.. for the better.. he KEPT making changes and asking for feedback and he was TRYING to make his site the best he can.. i helped him.. I helped him SOO much that i took an hour out of MY DAY to give him an idea for a nice banner and a consistent LOOK to follow..

READ THIS POST BEFORE YOU MAKE ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT ME

OR THIS ONE

HOW ABOUT THIS ONE???

want me to post more?? because i have been of more help here with my minimal knowledge of coding that you probably have..

grow up and learn to take some criticism.. REALLY!! adn post where you want you think i'm being rude.. i'd LOVE for you to point it out..

Oh yea, and MAYBE if you took some of my suggestions, i might have helped you along to get a more consistent look

The lady gave you just exactly what you aked for.

If you don't want honest opinons, both positive and negative, don't post in here.

I'd say if you can't stand the heat, stay away from the fire, Bud.

<_<

If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you.

In the mood I'm in, I'll just say 'ditto'.

Lindsay has helped a lot of folks get their sites together.

It's not personal, don't take it as such.

Well, after the response to the initial feedback, I won't mention that the tables do not line up, or that the carousel is an unecessary gimmick.

You are proud of how much you have done, so why would you crave feedback?

Site Review for: JazzyLee Kidz Biz

I suggest that you install the Search engine friendly URL module. Search engine friendly URL's convert your store URL's from:

http://www.yoursite.com/product_info.php?c...p;products_id=1

to:

http://www.yoursite.com/Hardware/Graphics-...atrox-G200-MMS/

This allows search engine spiders to craw your website easily converting convoluted PHP extensions to URL's that are rich in keywords. For more information please visit the link below:

http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/2823

It is important to make sure that each product info page contains unique Meta descriptions and keywords for each product. Although what you place in the Meta keywords tag and Meta description tag does not give any weight in the ranking algorithms of Google, it may affect what appears in Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs). For more information please visit the link below:

http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/2714

Consider your Title Tag as a representation of your core keywords of the most important services and offerings. Make sure that your core keywords stand out in the title of your index page before anything else. Always remember to utilize the title tag on each individual URL for its specific keyword(s) and keyword phrases.

Alt tags are important because:

Some of the web users cannot see images, be they blind (convert text to speech or Braille output), color-blind, low-sighted etc. The alt attribute gives them an idea of what's on the page.

Search engines do index alt attributes as well. Make sure each image on your store contains relavent alt tags.

A site map makes it easier for indexing spiders to find all of the content on your site. Search engine spiders or bots have a hard time following links that use JavaScript, like mouseovers. A site map with a collection of plain text links to all pages can make it easier for more pages of a site to be included in a search engine index. Consider installing the following module:

http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/2208

Acceptable forms of payment should be clearly displayed on your store to let customers know exactly what forms of payment are accepted. This may include displaying credit card, Google Checkout or Paypal logos. This information should preferably be displayed in the footer. However, under certain circumstances when site pages are too long this information should be displayed within an infobox. See the following module for instructions on how to create a Credit Card Payment Logo Box:

http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/5413

Check your link rollover/hover colors. They should match your color scheme (an not contain white).

In order to further customize your website, all existing osCommerce logos/icons should be replaced with new logos/icons or removed. The following module can be used as a starting point:

http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/5457

Images should be kept as small as possible for one reason: speed. Your visitors will not stay around forever to wait for your website to load. To reduce image size you will need to either use a competent image manipulation program or thumbnail module. See the following module for more information:

http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/2226

Navigational menus should not contain images. It is suggested that you use a CSS stylized list for navigational menus. Search engine spiders have a much easier time crawling text web links rather than images.

I suggest removing the product count from your categories infobox. The product count slows down your website's loading time and are generally unnecessary. In addition, if your categories infobox contain (->) arrows, I suggest that these also be removed.

The standard format for US addresses is: Street Address, City, State, Post Code, and Country. I suggest that you move the Post Code field below the State/Province field on both the signup and address book entry edit page. (create_account.php, address_book_process.php).

A Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart (CAPTCHA) is a type of challenge-response test used in computing to determine whether the user is human. The main purpose of CAPTCHA is to prevent spam. I suggest installing this module. In addition, if your contact us page contains email addresses, consider removing them. For more information please visit the link below:

http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/4960

I suggest switching to an Amazon style login example here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/sign-in.html This form of login in my opinion is very familiar to many online shoppers. For more information please visit the link below:

http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/2073

Comments:

The first thing that struck me is the large image in your header. I would shrink that down and create a more simple design that is less "busy". In addition, I would remove your navigation images and use text styled with CSS(they are not user friendly because they do not contain alt tags).I suggest making the quick find link in your search box a image (asthetically looks better). I would modify your link rollover color to either balck or dark puple (white is not a good option because it is hard to read on a light pink background).

Andrew's Overall Score:

44/100 = 44%

I can see what you are trying to do with the site - but it just aint working.

I can't imagine who would look at your site and think "spend money". I don't really do clothes shopping so can't really advise any other sites to take inspiration from (maybe H&M ?)

Start over - make it more polished, more pro, less "myspace".

I did a clothing store recently that you may be able to get some ideas from. It is a baby clothing store and yours is for kids so it may inspire you some. globalenfant.com

This site uses a lot of contributions for the backend and STS for the frontend.
