remove images from catagories and corners

I know I've seen this somewhere but after a couple hours of looking, I'm hoping someone can easily tell me where to find the answer.

If I do not upload an image when I make a new product, it's showing a x red that there isn't an image. How do I change the code so there does not have to be an image added to a product. I do not want to delete the option of adding an image, only if I do not, I don't want the red x to show up.

 

Second question

I want to get rid of the corners. They are showing up on a dark gray background and a white background. I have tried opening them in photoshop and making them transparent - they still show up.

 

Third question

I know I saw a thread that told how to get rid of the images in the What's New Bar but do not remember where to change that

You can upload a tranparent very small image in its place and your site will never know the difference.. just create a tranparent .gif file and uplaod it on categories that you do not want to have an image

 

Are you talking about the corners on the infoboxes?? i BELIVE the code for them is in catalog/includes/classes/boxes.php You will see it there

 

you mean getting rid of the ENTIRE whats new, or just the products inside or just the images for the products?? A little more clarification on that one

I opened the corner_right_left.gif and create a transparent gif and saved over the one then uploaded it into

/catalog/images/infobox/corner_right_left.gif but the light gray gif still shows up when I refresh the page??? Am I adding the image to the wrong place

No, just the words that say What's New Here and the image next to it. I want to change what it says and have no image next to it.

I found the image question - it was in my admin. I had to set the image required to false under configuration>images :-)
