lambikins Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Hi I'm completely new to this & it's all a bit of a foreign language to me if I'm honest! I seem to get so far each time then hit a brick wall, but unfortunately I can't seem to figure out this lastest hitch and am hoping someone out there will know what I need to do. I was at the point of trying to remove the 2nd warning at the top of the page - "Warning I am able to write to the configuration file......" I kept trying to reset the permissions in catalog/includes/configure.php - I tried changing to 400, 444 & 644 as advised on previous threads and the tutorial I'm following, but each time it seem to reset itself to 600. After about the 6th attempt to change the permissions it came up with a white screen & the following message: Warning: main(includes/configure.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/kaya2975/public_html/catalog/includes/application_top.php on line 28 Warning: main(includes/configure.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/kaya2975/public_html/catalog/includes/application_top.php on line 28 Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required 'includes/configure.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/kaya2975/public_html/catalog/includes/application_top.php on line 28. I would be grateful for any help to resolve! Thanks Kay
♥geoffreywalton Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Probable set the permissions to secure. Instead of using an ftp client go to your ISP's control panel and set permissions on the file from there. If you can't find it try ringing their help desk. tandj Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Hi Kay: Your brick wall analogy is so pertinent! I've got the same error issue and followed some help to my cpanel to change the permissions, but nothing has worked yet. I tried my isp help but they just said other osc users had 640 as permissions. I was told to try 400, but that's read only, so I don't understand how that's going to get rid of the error message that I can't write to the files. I'm off to buy a book today...Keep the thread going if you find a solution. I think it has something to do with cpanel users (if that's the case for you as for me). lambikins Posted October 1, 2008 Author Posted October 1, 2008 OMG! Just tried to set the permissions to 644 by going through cpanel & it seems to have worked first time!! I really can't believe it - but I will just wait for the next hurdle! Thanks to both of you for your replies - much appreciated. Janet - Please let me know which book you get & if it's any good & I think I may just invest in one. Kay
