CCGV Php defaults?

I had a friend try to install this - http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/282 (I am not very good at it). And he said that I must have a default variable that is disabled in PHP enabled. My host does not allow PHP defaults to be changed. He was trying to install v3.1

 

Is this fixed in later versions? Is there anyway around this? I need this contrib and cant change my host any time soon.

 

Help appreciated.
