pickyourbag Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Ok, before I ask the questions I am about to ask, I have read many of the posts that are on the forum but I am still not getting it or where to start. I bought a oscommerce template from algozone.com they gave me the file to extract using winzip which I did and it is now on my desktop, they also installed my shopping cart for me which is installed in mysql. Now my question is where do I start if I wanted to make changes to my site? Where is the correct way to go, ftp? If not then what is the correct one. Also, how do I transfer my files that are downloaded to my desktop and onto the database? If I can get to this point with the help of everyone here, how do I upload the modified file to reflect on my site? Where do I go to do that? Again, I've read many posts for the new people like myself and honestly do not understand it becuase it seems like they are missing things and not starting completely from the beginning, and maybe some people are just assuming that we know where to start from. Not me, is there anyone you can give me a step by step lesson. Appreciate all of the help...
♥Vger Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 The problem for people in answering your question is that it is not just one question. You appear to be asking for a complete guide as to how to do everything in osCommerce, including how to FTP files. The best thing for you to do is to set up your PC as an offline web server (Intranet), and you can then install osCommerce and run it on your PC - play around with it - make mistakes - reinstall it if necessary - until you learn how to do things in osCommerce. It's not that difficult to do. Go to this address and download an archived version of XAMPP, which is an all-in-one web server you can run on your PC: http://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.p...;group_id=61776 It is a 1-click install, and includes PHP, MySQL, phpMyAdmin, Apache etc. The osCommrce 'catalog' folder with all its sub-folders and files go into the 'htdocs' folder, you set up a blank database using http://localhost/phpmyadmin and then you go to http://localhost/catalog/install and install osCommerce on your PC.
