jstreasures Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 I've noticed the osCommerce installation creates categories for the example/sample products. Yet when I create new categories in the admin area, and enter products into those categories, the images that are uploaded are placed in the /images directory. Is this how this is supposed to work? I'd prefer to have the images in their own categories vs. being mixed in with the programs images. Do I need to create these directories myself and upload my images via FTP? What is the best way to keep these images organized? Should I need to be looking for a contribution that accomplishes this? Or am I doing something wrong? Many of the items we will be selling are onesy-twosy (not stock) items, so once the sale is made the images will need to be removed/deleted. How is this accomplished in osCommerce? Will I have to sort through all the images in the /images directory and determine which images are active and which inactive (or which belong to the program...) I've been dragging my feet a little getting started... I'd hate to start loading the store with items only to find out I should have done it differently. So I've been scouring the forums here but haven't found anything that seems to remotely answer my questions. If someone has information or can point me to a document, post, or thread I'd most greatful!!! Thanks in advance, JSTreasures
lindsayanng Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 The admin section where you CREATE CATEGORY and ADD PRODUCTS will automatically put the images where they are supposed to be. If you want to create your own folders for each category, then you have to change the code for admin/create_category.php (i THINK thats the name of the file - not sure though) So basically, you CAN create a new folder for whatever you want, but you need to tell the code to call the image form that folder for that product.. you also need to tell the category pages to pull from that category instead of the main images category. Personally, i dont see why you would NEED it. I can see wanting to keep yoru images organized, but you can just organize the images you create an place through out your site that are not stock, and just leave the ones the admin sets be. as for deleting a product, i am PRETTY sure that when you delete a product in admin, everything goes away with it.
