melody1 Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 I am trying to "create an account" on my webstore to see if it works. I bought a few things off me and when I went to checkout and create an acct, after I create and confirm password, it tells me "please select a state from the pull-down menu" but I already did! Then it disappears and I put it in over and over and resubmit pswd. What am I doing wrong?
melody1 Posted September 8, 2008 Author Posted September 8, 2008 Ohhhh, this is bad....just out of curiousity, I put in Florida and it created an account for me. Why won't it accept my real state I live in.....and don't anybody say the state of confusion isn't up there
sLaV- Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Have you set up your zones?? (goto your Admin section www.yourdomain.com/catalog/admin and click on Locations/Taxes and in Zones make sure it is all set up correctly) ... if its not you might be able to find a Zones contribution in the Contributions section for your country
melody1 Posted September 8, 2008 Author Posted September 8, 2008 okay, half-fixed. I typed in the whole word Pennsylvania and it accepted it. But the average person isn't going to keep trying! They will quit and go away and I will lose business.

melody1 Posted September 8, 2008 Author Posted September 8, 2008 Thank you, it kind of works now. I entered my hubby's info. Same thing tho, won't take PA and after entering a pswd, I get the same error, but THEN it gives me a drop-down menu on the 2nd attempt and it went thru.
♥toyicebear Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 As a default this is how it works. The customer arrives at the create account screen... He/she fills in their state. If he/she write the state name correctly then nothing happens and they are sent further into the checkout process upon continuing. If he/she write the state name incorrectly . (Full state name, correctly spelled) Then they will get the error message in relation to input state and in the form a drop down of the available states will show. Then they just have to select the correct state from the drop down list and fill in the password again and then continue on. melody1 Posted September 8, 2008 Author Posted September 8, 2008 so if one just puts in their state abbreviation (which 99% of the public will do) then they will get the error message?
sLaV- Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 so if one just puts in their state abbreviation (which 99% of the public will do) then they will get the error message? yep ... which is why i suggested to get country-state selector ... it gives the drop down box of states and country (if your selling to other countries) EVERYTIME ... so your customers wont have to type it in...you can see it in action on my site http://www.pcstudio.com.au ... just click on Create Account at the top
