Registering at Google

I am ready to register my site with Google, but when I came to do that they have asked me to insert a metatag on my homepage in the first <head> section, before the first <body> section.

I would be grateful if somebody could tell me which php file this is and where it would actually go.

Many thanks

Is this to validate your site?

You should have the option of uploading an HTML file instead.

Regards

Nic

Yes I do have an option for an HTML file, I take it that is an easier option, but I still dont know where to put it.

you need to upload it to your root directory.

Htdocs or public_html folder

Nic

I am sorry for appearing a bit thick on this. I can see my public_html folder.

I have a list of letters and numbers.html to upload. How do I create the file to upload?

Open Notepad,

now click save as

in type select all files

save the file with the name google have given you

it will be a long number ending in html

Wrap the file name in " " before saving, this will prevent it being saved as googleglkhlfkjhrf4543514.html.txt

Nic,

I have created the html file. Thank you.

I put it in the public_html folder, but I still cannot see it when I browse for it and when I try and verify it at google I get a message sayinga status 404 not found error.

Can you point me in the right direction please.

Did you use the code from google as the file name?

Nic

yes I did.

I then typed into my browser

www.perfumepalace.co.uk/google***************.html

and I got a 404 notice.

Sorry Nic, I have been an ass!

To much typing not enough checking!

I apologise.

While I have you here though, I want to install IP Trapped for some added security

It says you need to change the php files. Am I right in saying that in my case **Username** will be perfumepalace.co.uk (no www.) and **catalog** will be catalog?

No, its your control panel username i assume it is something like this perfumep

Nic

Thank you

I will give it a go now.

Nic,

I have followed the instructions, but when I come to test it, I enter www.perfumepalace.co.uk/personal and I get a 404 notice

Where should I look first to see where I have gone wrong?

Nic,

Im sorry it does work and I did block myself. I did however have to go to www.perfumepalace.co.uk/catalog/personal to get blocked. Is that correct?
