osCommerce

The e-commerce.

Has anyone dealt with this company?

In an effort to rid myself of the terrible hosting company I am currently dealing with, I approached hyperactivehosting.com with a number of questions.

They claim to be a OSCommerce expert hosting company that has also coding hundreds of hours in OSC modifications, etc. This is just the company I am looking for.

When I submitted my questions, I received a ticket number with a login account. Unfortunately, the login account doesn't work. After submitting several new tickets, explaining that I could not log in, I received an email (about a week later) from the president. I responded but another week has passed. In addition, my initial tickets received an expiry warning and despite replying that I could not log in to see any response to my tickets, I still haven't received any acknowledgement that I am having difficulty.

Am I just experiencing an unusual technical glitch or is this company as disorganized as it currently appears to me?

I also have a problem with a company that doesn't publish a support telephone number.

I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt, especially because I am having a whole lot of difficult locating a hosting site that I can rely on.

Hopefully this message isn't banned!

I am NOT asking for hosting site recommendations because it's not allowed here!

I haven't dealt with them, but if you've already paid them for hosting and two weeks have gone by and you still can't even log in to start making a site I'd demand a refund and look for hosting elsewhere.

From what you've posted it appears you've traded one "terrible hosting company" for another...

If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you.

No, actually. I simply asked them a number of questions in order to help me determine whether or not they were a good fit for the business I represent.

But their weird actions have left me feeling this company is not a good match.

Still, I am wondering if their behavior is atypical.

I am frustrated because I am so tired of dealing with incompetent people!

As much as I would like to heal your problem with a hosting suggestion you are right.. You can't tell spam from good ol help anymore. I feel your pain. I went through 2 refunds in 2 months before I settled down with a provider I am with now.. I think almost 2 years with them... The point being I ment to get at is that if they are not answering your tickets in 1 hour or less, providing a extensive faq with video tutorials if possible, and hopfully for your sake have a 30 day refund policy (with no gimmicks) in place then I myself would simply not fool with them.. I have the one I use and then I am friends with a big time software developer (You have most likely heard of if you are into graphics) that he says has been the fit for him so far... I am availabe via pm if suggesting that way is allowed but if its not then please do not bother so that neither of us are breaking any rules.. If a web hosting service offers a 1 hour ticket response or less then you can just about guarantee that they have everything else together pretty well too. Perhaps you just do a web search with your favorite search engine with the terms "1 hour ticket response web hosting" and research what you come up with. I wish you all the best. Been down that road..

Ok before you go round 3 on another terrible provider.. I just did that web search with those terms I was talking about.. I found quite a few that offered a 1 hour response times but only on presale questions or only on certain topics.. Research carefully.. I correct myself.. 1 hour response time does not mean they have everything else together...

I've researched so many different companies. Unfortunately, so many of them failed my selection "test" and mostly because they took more than 5 days to reply or never replied at all.

Why is it that so few companies (not just hosting sites) understand basic business principles in running a successful business?

The reasons why I want to leave my current host are many, including:

- failing to meet deadlines (sometimes a week will pass before get a reply about the status of a project which is already behind schedule);

- making excuses for failing to meet deadlines! Is making excuses the new norm? I was taught to admit my mistakes, am I odd that way?

- breaking osc components then charging to fix these problems (over $1000 in over charges)... but we had to pay because we have no where else to go;

- lying about why something doesn't work, not admitting to their mistakes, etc.

If you take a look at http://www.reviewcentre.com/products100.html there are many user reviews of hosting companies, the ones I would look at have high scores & lots of reviews (they may review themselfs after all) the one I use has a score of 9.4, as your US based you would need to find the firm they buy from.

I`ve experianced bad hosting in the past & its a real pain, finding a good one takes such a weight off.

I think the secret is to get a recommendation from someone you trust.

The UK host that I'm with is excellent and supports osCommerce. Not that expensive either, although not the cheapest. I learnt about them from a friend.

Unfortunately I don't think I'm supposed to give out names here. If I did, you wouldn't know if I was conning you!
