SSL makes my images disappear

This site has been fine for over a year. My client had someone else do some mods on it and now when SSL is enabled the images disappear in SSL mode. The navagation is still correct but the pages have no images. If SSL is not enables everything is fine. I have checked both config files and they are fine, the client does not know what the other person did. I viewed the source when in SSL mode and the image paths are correct. I entered an image path in the browser address bar using the SSL link and it does not display the image, instead it redirects to the non-SSL index page. Does anyone know how to fix this?

have a look to see if "HotLink Protection" (in host panel) is on and if so add the https url of the shop to the list
