Images not uploading - Any advice please :)

Hi,

I have 3 oscommerce websites hosted through 3ix. I've had no problems at all uploading images and adding new products to all any of my sites in the past until the past few days. Now whenever I try to add new products to catalogue through admin all the text & price details appear but I get a pink bar across the top of the page with an error message Warning: No file uploaded.

I haven't changed anything in any of my stores, not changed or added any new code and haven't added an contribs. Nothings changed since being able to upload images to now. I have my image folders set to 777 so really can't understand what the problem may be.

I also noticed that when I now try to add a new product the image it isn't automatically uploading from my pc documents folder to my store image folder and I have had to upload it myself through FTP, so the images are now all in my image folder but still don't show or upload to my catalogue.

Can anyone advise please, is there something I'm doing wrong or does it sound like this could be a problem with my server.

TIA :)

I can't fix your problem, but I'll tell you that this is a HUGE mistake:

I have my image folders set to 777

With it set that way, you're a hack just waiting to happen...

:o

They should be no higher than 755

If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you.

I thought they had to be set at 777 when your adding new images or changing things? I don't have the folder set at 777 all the time, it is set to 755 like all the others, I just change it to 777 when I'm working on it.

Just pray a hacking bot doesn't catch you while doing this.

To get around this use a contribution called osC FileBrowser.

That's what I did.

Thanks for the warning, I've made sure image files are set to 755 now and will look at that contrib.

Thanks for your advice :)

The way that contribution works is this:

You have to upload the images to the site before adding/editing categories/products.

Then in your admin a box will popup and you pick the image file from the images folder instead of uploading from your pc.

When I installed it at first I thought it wasn't working because no image files showed in the popup window.

But there is a scroll bar on the right side of the window. I used it, scrolled down, and the images files were there.

I don't know if this is normal, or I did something wrong on the install.

Thanks, just installed it and in the process of editing code, I've edited code in catalog/includes/functions/html_output.php OK, but when it comes to admin/includes/functions/html_output.php I don't have just an html_output.php file. I have these html_output files; html_output-051113-on-the-fly-thumb.php. html_output-060817-on-the-fly-thumb.php. html_output.php-2.2ms2-051113. html_output-no-cssbuttons.php. html_output-nothumb.php. html_output-on-the-fly-thumb.php.

No idea what their all for or if I need them all or if it's one of these I need to edit

OK, I've sorted out the html_output.php in admin and edited the code. I've managed everything else OK and now in admin I have the choose file link by the side of products image. However when I click on that I don't get a pop up box or anything to scroll down, so I think I must have missed something somewhere.

I am a bit confused by this part though: Modify /admin/includes/filebrowser/config.php

Set the paths in this file to their correct settings. Refer to comments in file for help.

I've read the file but still not sure what I need to set it to, any advice greatfully received. :)

Ahhh, just re-read the installation instructions and noticed this: The GD image library is required for this mod. This mod has been tested with osCommerce MS2 on a UNIX server. It doesn’t work on Windows.

I think this could well be my problem as I'm running on windows :(

I'm still unable to upload images to any of my sites. I've tried repairing databases in control panel but I'm really at a loss here so if anyone has any advice or ideas I would really appreciate it.

It could be a problem with the image file name.

Image names should contain only letters A to Z or a to z, and numbers 0 thru 9.

They shouldn't contain spaces or other puncuation in the name other than the period between the file name and extension.

Do the images you're uploading meet that criteria?

Yes all my images are named in that way, I've even tried uploading images that are already on my sites to see if they load but I still get the same error message and no picture. Just a box with the text of the image I'm trying to upload.

I've sent a message to my host server to ask if theres a problem their end and had a reply back saying they've corrected it but it's still not uploading pictures so don't know what it is they think they've corrected?

It just seems very strange that all 3 of my sites are having the same problem, I haven't changed anything in them and I was uploading and adding new stock on one of them with no problems at all a few days ago and now I can't upload images to any of them. I have one main site and the others are sub domains on the same server.

Everything else seems fine, I've been checking through my files and folders and can't see any strange codes anywhere that shouldn't be there and I can't see that if I've been hacked that a hacker would just stop me uploading images. I'm just totally baffled

If I go into admin / catalogue and open up a product already listed to revise it etc, when I right click on the image box and click view picture I get a larger picture of it in a new window. However if I do the same with a product I'm trying to upload it opens a new window which says Index of /images and a long list of all the image numbers, size and last modified etc

Hi again,

Just an update, I've been in contact with my hosting company and asked them for help/advice re my issue. Unfortunately they have been not very helpful and just keep asking me to explain my problem over and over again without giving any advice.

I have just received an email from them saying this: "I would lik to suggest to you to reinstall the scripts.

Thanks backups for your databases and reinstall the scripts for your web site, this should resolve your issue."

Can anyone please clarify what they are saying and what scripts I would need to re-install

Hi Jim

I was wondering as I am pretty new to this whole thing if you would be so kind as to walk me through the installation of FileBrowser. I have edited the categories file in dreamweaver and that seams to have worked well as when I now try to insert an image it opens up a box but unfortunitly the box contain the site itself. This is where I am getting stuck I know the problem is in the editing of config.php. Could you by any chance explain to me how to do that?

Thank you so much

Erwin

I thought they had to be set at 777 when your adding new images or changing things? I don't have the folder set at 777 all the time, it is set to 755 like all the others, I just change it to 777 when I'm working on it. blush.gif
