panthercreations Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 I am a newbie to oscommerce and I built this site for a friend. He's telling me that it is not user friendly. I've been working on this for a while and while I think it is ok, but I may be too partial. While my friend likes the site, he says that a customer stopped an order because instead on giving his address for DE it showed AL and the customer was confused in how the make a payment. I've modded (sp?) it a bit and still want to put on a dollar amount discount for orders of $50 and $100 as well as gift certificates. Can someone, anyone, everyone please give me feedback and tell me what would make this a truly good site for his customers to shop?
panthercreations Posted August 2, 2008 Author Posted August 2, 2008 I must be tired. I forgot to give the website! www.wisocrab.com/catalog. Thanks in advance for your feedback.
Guest Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Well, It is obvious that not much effort was put into your site. It is basically an out of the box OSC install with a couple minor changes. You still have the cheesy default graphics and colors. All the images of crab are the same image. I realize that crabs mostly all look the same, but some a couple different pictures would look better. Perhaps a little more effort would make the site more pleasant ? Also, your WHOLE site is under the SSL ??????? ummmm why ? Chris
panthercreations Posted August 2, 2008 Author Posted August 2, 2008 Thanks for the feedback Chris. Being new to this, I decided not to change the style until I had a better grasp of osc. It was not a lack of effort, but a lack of knowledge. Regarding the images, I agree, different pictures would look better. I'm working on that. I placed the whole site under ssl, because when I began, I started getting pop ups that there was some secured items and some non-secured items and I read somewhere that this may prevent customers from wanting to continue. Is having the entire site under ssl a problem? I'm just asking to know what to do? Do you agree that the site is not user friendly, or are you saying that it is just a plain osc site?
patarini Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Site is user friendly, and stock -- no crab pictures tho, also where is the 300 dollar gift certificate? Went back and the pics were there! Hmmm, oh well. Food looks good to me!Missing Logo across from products at wisos. pet peeve -- change the zip code to be below the state, ez to do, also add drop downs for the states. No need for the currency box, and languages too. Ez mod to get rid of them! Also get rid of the request since blah blah -- who cares? Still doing one for me so these are from a consumer! Luck!
jhande Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 I am a newbie to oscommerce and I built this site for a friend. He's telling me that it is not user friendly. In all honesty, ask your friend why he feels it is not user friendly. Does he want a different category menu? Is there too much information that he doesn't want shown (such as different infoboxes)? Maybe he just doesn't like the layout? Who knows, maybe he doesn't like the color scheme and graphics? You are utilizing the basic osC structure and the site seems fine as far as being user friendly. I mean, everything seems to be there and easy enough to find. It's your friend that you have to please so get his input. After all, he's your client. ;) - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -
Gomeza Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 Hi panthercreations I'm going to attempt to add some constructive criticsm that I hope is helpful. Your perceived issue of being user friendly can be addressed by focusing on the type of business it is. We are speaking of a localized business dealing in one language and one currency which currently has a limited number of products. So let's look at these realities first. Site clutter is a big issue in terms of user friendliness. You do not really need the language and currency infoboxes, so remove them. Your site has a limited number of products presently, so make the product images bigger. Additionally the company information presented on the main page is too long for the average attention span. Turn it into a remote "About Us" page and link to it from a summary presented on the main page. If you do not know how to do these things contact me through my profile after the weekend and I can show you how to do it quickly.
Gary-London Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 Looks pretty cool to me, an out the box OSC - just the way it should be! Just wondering is there any way I could get one of your Chocolate Molten Bundt Cake delivered to the UK?? They look pukka! Gazza If its not broken...why try fixing it??
