phixon Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 I have installed osc into my root directory, but I want to add a home page and such. Is it as simple as maknig a folder called 'shop' and shifting everything 1 folder deeper? Or will that break the shop?
web-project Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 yes, you can & don't forget to update the path to it in configure.php Please read this line: Do you want to find all the answers to your questions? click here. As for contribution database it's located here! 8 people out of 10 don't bother to read installation manuals. I can recommend: if you can't read the installation manual, don't bother to install any contribution yourself. Before installing contribution or editing/updating/deleting any files, do the full backup, it will save to you & everyone here on the forum time to fix your issues. Any issues with oscommerce, I am here to help you.
satish Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 If YOu move the whole catalog then You need to Modify the configure.php. I would not recommend one level down as the URL will be longer and sarche engines give lesser weightage as the level goes up. I am basically adding a static website to it, where the shop will just be a part of it
lindsayanng Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 again, it is still REALLY annoying. Why can;t you put that info on the index page where the main text is.. There is no need for all that main text that comes in the stock oscommerce, you dont even NEED the new products, why cant you put that there. I PROMISE YOU that if customers land on that page without going directly to the store, they will leave before even entering.. Not all, but i can BET that half will get confused and leave, adn the other half will just leave A great place for newbies to start Road Map to oscommerce File Structure DO NOT PM ME FOR HELP. Within the store admin under Catalog Define main page, I keep getting TEXT_FILE_DOES_NOT_EXIST. Can you tell me how to fix that? Thanks!
lindsayanng Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 in my signature, you will see a link that says OSCOMMERCE ROAD MAP, go there and learn about the file structure.. there you will learn how to start to customize your main page.. Basically all text is defined hte in english.php file. You can put images and tables in that file too, or you can put the images in the index.php page, but that takes a lot more php coding knowledge.. i usually create a table in the text define in the english page and put the image in there. xecutech Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 I just added an index.htm page with what i wanted to be the home page and put a shop link to index.php. By default the .htm page will come up first, if not use the .htacces file to make it load .htm first. I had to do this because i didn't want to move the files to another directory and I also had a forum and photo gallery on the same site. Then I just added a link back to the main page in the header of oscommerce. Hope this helps...
Guest Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 What is the best way to change the main page. I installed a wysiwyg but can't get it working. Within the store admin under Catalog Define main page, I keep getting TEXT_FILE_DOES_NOT_EXIST. Can you tell me how to fix that? Thanks! I think when I installed the contribution the TEXT_FILE is now missing in the admin of the store. I think I need to find where to put the define: text_file code in at to make it work. I downloaded and installed WYSIWYG HTMLArea MS2 v1.7 I had tried to define the main page in the php page but kept getting an error on the index page so I thought the WYSIWYG would be easier. I think it would work perfectly if I can find why I'm getting the error TEXT_FILE_DOES_NOT_EXIST under Catalog>Define Main Page (this link was added to my admin when I installed the contribution.
