Deeogee Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 My girlfriend and I have designed a bunch of oscommerce templates and released them I know that that people are free to pretty much do what they want with them, but what about people pretty much copying them and releasing them as essentially theirs on the this site like this guy http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/6110 he releases this template http://red.theme.bathingape.co.za/ which looks surprisingly a lot like a the orange Julius template I designed awhile ago http://e-themes.info/oscommerce3/ I know people can take the templates and do what they like with them on their own sites, but isn't it kind of lame to strip someone credits and kind of pass off someone else's images and styles as your own? I mean couldn't he at least use his image editor to make the images a little different? he has copied two so far, but I am assuming he will continue to do this Is this lame, or should I be proud that someone likes my work so much they copy it and pass it off as their own? I pm'ed him and asked him to stop copying my stuff and design his own images this is his response Listen here I am designing my own pictures and replacing your lame ass ugly pictures, i also re-wrote my own read-me file and deleted yours. Please show me where i copied your exact template and then re-posted it. FYI- This website is for people who are trying to make the world a better place by posting free templates and other things, so nobody gives a rats ass if i copy your templates (WHICH I AM NOT, i am re-designing them so people can have a wider range to choose from), you have noticed that people like my designs more than yours and they have stopped downloading your shitty little templates and they download mine because mine are professionally done unlike yours. My templates also include shipping.php (Shipping and Returns), conditions.php (Conditions of Use) and privacy.php (Privacy Notice) which none of yours have, it also has all the information needed on the front page, which, once again, you do NOT include. Don't go and copy my things now. OK!!!!!!!!! I am also just curious, why the fuck don't you want me to re-design your shitty ass templates???? Fuck you and have a nice day! Quote
DataMouse Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 He has a point :P Why not simply point out that you don't mind him reworking your templates (afterall, plagurism is the highest form of flattery), thank him for adding in additional pages and "improving" the package, and ask that he add you to the credits - "adapted from Richard's shitty ass template", or something similar :) The guy sounds like a cock.
