GraphicServices Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Hello all. This is probably a really dumb question, but I'm an osCommerce newbie so please forgive it ;) I just recently learned about the gZip compression option in admin -> Configuration after reading a post on here. I have a few questions: 1. Is this supported by all the popular browsers, and if it isn't, will the pages still display? 2. Do experience store owners and more knowledgable osCommercers recommend usining this? 3. I noticed that there seems to be no difference in speed load time between the 0 and 9 setting when I checked it on http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/ . Which setting is better and how come I don't notice a difference? Thanks for your time in reading this.
DataMouse Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 1. Is this supported by all the popular browsers, and if it isn't, will the pages still display? A: Yes. You can test with browsershots.org to check which ones it works with. Basically, IE3 and bleow don't work, older versions of NetScape and some old versions of Opera (7 and below, if I remember rightly). 2. Do experience store owners and more knowledgable osCommercers recommend usining this? A: Yep. 3. I noticed that there seems to be no difference in speed load time between the 0 and 9 setting when I checked it on http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/ . Which setting is better and how come I don't notice a difference? A: I set mine at 5, and it runs fine. :-) I had a blind date last night. Her name was ..:. :.: :: .. ::. :. ::.
