Mitchellcaines Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Hi, Mitchell here I am new to OScommerce. Me and a friend have completed a website www.topcomp.com.au As you can see it loads very very slow. I came to the conclusion that its the index.php that takes around 6 seconds to load, and must load before everything else does. Any help with this would be great. If you need further info please let me know Thanks
DataMouse Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 First of all, enable GZip compression in your admin > configuration settings. This will speed it up - but users with old browsers (IE3) won't be able to view your site. Also, you're using PNG images. Convert to Jpegs or even GIF images to make them smaller. Alternatively, ensure that your PNGs are "flat" - ie. all the layers are compressed in Fireworks when you save. This will make them smaller. Finally, lose the banner. There's no need for it and the code execution is unnessessary. I had a blind date last night. Her name was ..:. :.: :: .. ::. :. ::. WRONG! They will be unaffected. http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=303628 Sam Remember, What you think I ment may not be what I thought I ment when I said it. markg-uk Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Also, turning off the category counts cuts down on the database queries (admin - my store, set 'Show Category Counts' to false)
